THAT'S the end??

Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 8:17 AM

I'm coming up to the end of the fic that I'm writing, and I'm starting to get worried....

Outlining an ending to a story isn't as easy as it seems. I'm having a hard time making sure that EVERYTHING I've mentioned in each chapter gets resolved, while envoking emotion and satifying my readers.

So, my question is.... what makes a good ending to a story, for you?

Do you like it all summed up and thats it? Do you like resolution, plus a bit more? Do you like a cliffhanger?

Please take a second to stop by and let me know what you think!

A Mother's Prayer for Its Child

Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 5:46 AM

By: Tina Fey

“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.”

I thought this would be a nice way to add to the FFA.

May I invite the dwellers of the Forest to add to the above plea?

Mine:

"Please do not let her think the lack of pantylines is more important than the possiblity she will end up a$$ over elbows in the hall of a fraternity house with her Who Who Dilly on display to all the members of Kappa Sigma Alpha Beta Phi Zeta."

Character tweets

Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 5:19 AM

I watched this yesterday:

One of my besties brought it over for the hubs and me, which was awfully nice of her. I made us a huge bowl of homemade popcorn (I kinda ate the whole thing), darkened the room and we were sucked in for a little while. Later that night, while I was tucking my girls into bed, she pulled up my laptop and tweeted this from my twitter:

This. Was. Hilarious to me.

I can't even begin to tell you how much this woman makes me laugh. (I'm trying to get her to join ADF so she can be part of the Twilight fandom again.)  But this tweet got me to wonderin'...

If characters from books, movies, etc. had access to Twitter during their adventures, what do you think they'd tweet???

Soundtracks

Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 5:14 AM

I am in love with this song, Me and Tennessee by Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw.

This song makes me want to see the film, Country Strong, when it's released in the UK some time this year. I heard this on the radio before I saw this video, and even just hearing the song makes me want to see the film.
What I want to know is; have you ever heard a song from a film's soundtrack that's made you want to see the film? Without already knowing about it or seeing trailers?

The disappearing act...

Tuesday April 19, 2011 at 10:50 PM

I keep seeing that it is FFA week, so I'm taken it....

I have to ask, what is with the disapearing act on the Twilight cast??

I understand why the girl who played Victoria is gone, but what happened to Tyler and the original Sam (nothing against the Sam in part 2 and 3)....

Okay, that is just me wondering......

Oh, and I was also wondering if anyone else is a Scream fan and what they think of the new movie??  I loved it!

"What is love?"

Tuesday April 19, 2011 at 8:20 PM

"Baby don't hurt me / Don't hurt me...no mo'.."   *crickets chirp*

I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE.  AT LEAST NOT THE KIND WHERE YOU ACTUALLY LOVE THE PERSON FOR WHO THEY REALLY ARE INSIDE LOL.

So, I wonder...what does love feel like?  Try to essplain to me - one who doesn't even know what "lurve butterflies" feel like.  As far as I'm concerned, it's gas.

Shakespeare can wax poetic about it, Michael Bolton can describe its hurt with that disconcertingly large voice, and fanfic can sort of fool us into feeling it for a couple of hours or so.

Psychology says love consists of 3 things:  Passion, Commitment, and Intimacy.  But that's all very clinical; and really what does THAT even mean?

In your own words, how does love make you feel?

Got any good stories about boyfriends?  Husbands?  Elevator guy?  The pool boy?  Local musician?  Butcher?

BFF!!

Tuesday April 19, 2011 at 7:41 PM

Okay so I am making a post about friends. Do you need some more? Want some more? I know that I am always looking for friends and I have a hard time finding them. So I thought with this post we could post what we are looking for in a friend. Chat buddy, Twitter friends, BFF, partner in crime. Whatever it is that you may need from someone. If you see something that you are looking for, seek that person out however you feel comfortable. Let's make friends! Lurkers Welcome!!!!

Positivity

Tuesday April 19, 2011 at 6:43 PM

It has come to my attention recently that it seems the only way we can get a campfire with a ton of comments and discussion is if it's about something negative regarding the fandom.

I have a challenge for you tonight.

I want to get a campfire going where we discuss nothing but POSITIVE stuff regarding the Twilight fandom.

What's your favorite part of the books?  The movies?  What do you love about the actors?  The music?  The author/directors?  The fandom in general.

My only rule...KEEP IT POSITIVE.  I do not want to see any negative in this.

Tell me I'm not alone

Tuesday April 19, 2011 at 3:46 PM

I just for five seconds need to know that I was right....so I'll set the story:

Last summer I read WFE in three days...became super obsessed with it & tried to get my sister to read the book.  Now my entire family knows how much I obsess over Rob.  It teeters on unhealthy...but I digress.  Finally my sister started reading again (she's got a 2 1/2 year old daughter who's a handful & a husband w/ a busy job so she never has time to sit & read) and read The Help.  After she finished that, I said, "Oh, why don't you read Water For Elephants?  It's a great book & i think you'll love it."  I'm such a pusher when it comes to great books I've read.  I give her the book & literally 3 weeks later she's still on page 15...which actually she said the bookmark was pushed ahead so she was really on page 9.

She's a teacher and her student have reading time so she started indulging herself to read.  She ended up texting me certain things which I had forgotten from the book and finished it.  Now we're not super holy-roller Catholic, but I mentioned to my sister that we should see the movie together.  I got so much grief for seeing it on Good Friday.  I have off from work (a miracle itself) and I'm seeing a matinee.  My family ridicules me saying Jesus died for us on Good Friday, we need observe--so I say, "Yes, and in order for him to die, eventually down the line Rob was produced, and voila, I'll be thankful he's on the screen b/c of Jesus." (that didn't go too well) but my sister said she wouldn't go. Fine. whatever.

So this weekend comes & at dinner my sister says to all of us that her & her husband (because he has off on Saturday) are going to see Water For Elephants because they never spend time alone together.  Can you see why I'd be pissed?  My sister and I are 5 years apart and I wanted this to be something we could do together. I got her to read HP & obsess, Twilight & obsess, and she knows that movies are my thing. Would you not be upset if you were me, that she's seeing it w/ her husband and not me? She doesn't understand why I'm mad..and now it's over, but I'm still bitter that we can't do a sister thing.  We both read it...why would you want to see it with your husband who probably has no desire to see it.  Even if you don't agree..just side w/ me anyway.

Here's something to look forward to on Friday :)
