I've got a book that I'd loan out that's pretty damn good Called Firelight by Sophie Jordan its about people who are decendants of Dragons.

We can swap, maybe. i'm looking for Fantasy Romance Novels. Even something Similar to Twilight but better(meaning Teen love stories or adult doesn't matter). LOL I just want to read a Good Romance(with plots) Novels and Fantasy/Adventure/Supernatural are also welcome. I don't have a specific book in mind that I want so tell me whatcha got. Hopefully one of these books will interest someone.  Nothing thats very violent I'm not into alot of angst or torture: just PM your address and i'll send them out US mail, and we'll exchange addresses.

So I just finished the last book in the Vampire Academy series...I basically read the whole series in like, five days. I know, I have no life lol! Anyway, I loved, loved, loved it! And I wanna discuss! And if anyone knows of any well written VA fiction, please share the links! Discussion in the comments, and there will be spoilers! Once upon a time I read a lot of fanfics (and by a lot, I really do mean A LOT!), then pretty much over night I stopped because I felt like I was reading the same story over and over. Then slowly I got back into it, and once again I find that fics excites me - at least some of them.

I cleaned out a lot of my old favorites and alerts and now I think I'm ready to take the step where I'll once again be filling my inbox with alerts and be excited when a story updates.

This is where you come in dear fellow campers. Show me what you have on alert, which updates makes you scream in excitement? What should I be reading?

I know there are many good complete stories out there, but for this campfire, only WIPs please.

I know people hate these and I checked the master fic list, but I couldn't find what I am looking for.

I want vamp Bella. 

Something following the premise of New Moon. Edward leaves and the wolves are not successful in protecting  Bella. She ends up getting changed  into a vamp somehow and years later crosses paths with the Cullens again.

I know there has to be a fic or 2 out there like this.

Greetings and welcome to another Fic Rec Campfire! 

All of these lists have been requested by one or more campers here at ADF!  If you can't find a fic list you think OUGHT TO BE on the MASTER FIC LIST, drop me a PM.  Be prepared to have one or two samples of the kind of fic you're wanting, though.  Because sometimes, I haven't a clue.

Today, the request is for fics that deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Sadly far too many folks are far too intimately acquainted with this disorder.  It's not a stranger in the land of Fanfic, either.  

Remember the Rules of the Campfire:

1.  This is a LIST. So keep it simple.  Title, author, LINK (if you can), summary from the site where it's posted.

2.  We are not discussing the fics, just rec'ing.  So no pimping.  No applause.  ;-)

I have been on a fic reading marathon as of late and it has mostly been an absolute joy. However, two fics have just really not sat well with me and I have no idea how to get it out of my system. I could leave a critical review but I made the mistake of looking at author #1's profile and she seems so nice, I hate to say anything at all and author #2 made it pretty clear in her author's notes that she didn't welcome critical feedback. The first story was very original and kept me interested and I hated to put it down, but then the lemons came. The lemons were completely OOC for the characters she had created, it didn't feel right. The overall story was great and the ending phenomenal, but the lemons really pulled me out of the story. The second was perfect until I realized she had made almost every female secondary character crazy stalkers, complicated the mystery plot beyond what was necessary and then killed of one of the main characters. I have no problem with character death but this seemed pointless and it just didn't fit. It felt like it was done for shock value and to manipulate emotions that were not authentically earned. The author also gave alternate epi's so one could choose HEA or not, although she views the not HEA to be the true ending. I don't like alternate epi's especially if the author has already stated a true ending- I like to go with the author's vision so the HEA would not carry any weight in my mind.

I have no idea if these criticisms are constructive. I see AN's in some fics and people complain about a lot of silly things. I don't want to personally attack anyone or say a fic is just aweful and your taste suck if you like it. I like to hear more thoughtful and critical reviews, I feel it gives a bigger picture of what the fic is about and helps me make a more informed decision about reading it.

How do you handle fics that you just wanna say someting about, even if what you have to say isn't all positive? How discuss a fic you didn't like or certain aspects you didn't like without being flamed for getting personal or naming names? Are there any fics that were great until that certain something that just didn't fit?

Robert Pattinson is confirmed for the role of ERIC PACKER in David Cronenberg's next film COSMOPOLIS, a film following a multi-millionnaire's 24hr odyssey across Manahattan.  It should be interesting, I read that it's filmed mostly in the back of a limo...that's some pretty intense acting...I look forward to seeing Rob in more serious roles after BD.

Taking the plunge to start my very first campfire...

There's been a lot of talk lately about negativity in the fandom...but I, personally, have had more positive experiences than negative since venturing into this crazy place. ;-)

Soooo... let's hear your stories about how the fandom has made you smile, made a difference, made the world a better place.

Maybe you were having a bad day, and a particular update made you laugh until you cried.

Maybe you were upset about a bad review and some fellow authors or readers cheered you up.

Maybe you put out a call for help and someone answered it.

Maybe you were just feeling down and  someone let you vent...or posted Robp0rn...or made you giggle.

So, lay it on me... gimme your warm fuzzies... :-)

I have some questions for you. I'm interested in setting up a website for an original story I'm working on, and I want something that looks professional. Do any of you have your own website, and if so, which host do you use? (If you're so inclined, could you also include links to your sites so I can see examples?) I think I read that you can build a website on Wordpress, but are you kind of limited in what you can do? That said, I'm HTML challenged, so whatever site you use, is it easy to navigate?

Any information you can provide or think of that can help me out would be appreciated. Thank you!

The first time I witnessed a mass case of self-entitlement in the fandom was when the Bree Tanner book was announced. People were enraged. How dare Stephenie write something other than our beloved Edward Cullen? How dare she release something other than Midnight Sun? How could she do this to us? The hatred directed at her was enormous. It filled my Twitter feed and my Livejournal. I dare say the hatred towards Bree Tanner rivaled the hatred fans have towards Jacob Black and that’s saying something. The whole ordeal reminded me of a two year old throwing a temper tantrum. The fandom wasn’t getting what it wanted so it rebelled.

Eventually the hullaballoo passed. People still dislike Bree but it’s not a hot button topic like it was last year. However, the self-entitlement we feel has not passed. I see it all the time. We rally and rage whenever we do not get what we want. We tell authors that they should be writing for themselves but when they do just that we throw hissy fits if what they want isn’t what we want.

We complain when a story is too long or chapters are too short. We complain if we don’t like the summary or if the spelling and grammar aren’t perfect. We leave ‘reviews’ telling the authors that they did it ‘wrong’ if we don’t like a certain pairing they’ve chosen or traits they’ve given the characters. We threaten to report people for posting A/Ns instead of chapters and we bully people to pull stories when we don’t like the content. We are a very picky fandom and seem unable to live and let live. We must have what we want when we want it and how we want it despite our claims to the contrary.

Since this is my column I’m going to take a moment to share with you what I believe we are entitled to.

I've been stuck inside all day due to horrible icy weather (That's right in Louisiana we get ice- not snow) and I'm going slightly stir crazy. Anyway Ive been craving a certain type of story- one where Edward & Bella have been dating/married for a while and the other one leaves them, for college, job, freedom, etc, only to come back years later wanting a second chance. Not too terribly specific...right???

Okay, so our very own EKSmith has started writing a story. It's her first time writing fanfiction, and it's good, really good. For her first time the writing is good, the pace is good, the characterisation is good... and she only has 22 reviews. And she definitely deserves more.

So, go give her a chance, yeah?
