It's friday where I am!

Friday September 16, 2011 at 6:30 AM

Ok, so i love quotes, and I know a lot of people on here do to...

I am looking for a quote I saw on here a long time ago, it was something about how we raise our kids to go down a certain path, but the best thing we can do for them is to let them make there our path. Something like that.

Yea, I should have saved it, but oh well!!!

If all else fails just post your favorite quote, i love reading them.

Thanks for your help and Happy Friday!

Like Totally 80's Contest

Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 5:48 PM

Big hair.  Jellie shoes.  Neon.  Madonnawannabes.  Miami Vice.  The 80's were a decade of fun fashions and fun music and we want to relive it!  The Like Totally 80's Contest combines music and the 80's and asks you to write a fic taking place in that decade using a song from our list (or you can petition for your own, as long as it's 80's).  Maybe Alice talks like a valley girl (Gag me with a spoon, Bella).  Maybe Rose sports Madonna's Like a Virgin outfit and fingerless gloves.  Emmett in MJ leather.  We want any and all of it!  See Like Totally 80's Contest for details and a list of songs.  Let's party like it's 1989!

Posted with permission of Wolvesnvamps.  Thanks lady!

Searching for a Fic

Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 4:03 PM

Hello all --

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I have been searching for a fic where Bella

Searching for a fic (hope this isn't against the rules, am I supposed to be waiting for a specific campfire to do things like this?) that I lost track of at least a year ago.

In this fic, Bella (around the age of 17-19) is sent by her controlling mother Renee to live with their family friend Aro in Italy, forcing her to leave her comfortable life and new boyfriend Jasper behind.  Once Bella arrives in Italy, she realizes that something isn't quite right--she isn't allowed to leave the house unless accompanied by Gianna, isn't allowed to use her phone or computer, and starts to encounter the mysterious Edward, who is owner of the home and seems to be of the evil, controlling vampire Edward variety.

If this sounds familiar, I would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction!

purple edit: hey, don't forget the new quid pro quo rule- if you're going to ask for help finding a fic, include a rec (and a link) to a story in return!

It's All About the Cars...

Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 2:59 PM

My neighbor has recently restored an Austen Healy Sprite and I had the great joy of driving it this weekend. As I zipped around in this awesome little machine, I thought to myself, "This must be what Alice feels like!" ;) It reminded me that one of the aspects I most enjoyed about reading the Twilight series was fantasizing about driving all the awesome cars! I mean, the Rabbit didn't do much for me but zipping around on a Ducati? Or taking a weekend drive in an Aston Martin? Yes, please! In fact, I could have put a few more cars in that garage. I'm quite sure that Rosalie could have done better than an M3...maybe a Bugatti Veyron? I could definitely see Aro in a Pagani Zonda . I'm a little surprised that they didn't have more fun with this angle in the movies - what fantasy car would you pair with your favorite vamp?

What I learnt from FF

Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 1:15 PM

So we talk about FF being an escape, a guilty pleasure, a secret, a sounding board, therapeutic etc etc but how many of you have felt reading a Twilight FF has enhanced your knowledge on things you knew little to nothing about before?

Since I’ve started reading Twilight FF I’ve learn about Asperger’s, PTSD, Greek Mythology, the renaissance, Dante, Rock Music and the list goes on.

I recently read an incredible story with Shakespeare at the heart of it: The Weight of Words

The last time I truly read Shakespeare was back in High School; however I found myself learning a lot from the weight of words and after finishing the story I bought a collection of the Bard’s works to reconnect with him.

To me the story went beyond the typical use of Shakespeare’s commonly used quotes but also delved into recurrent themes and more importantly context. It was amazing how the author not only found quotes from Shakespeare's considerable body of work to match the Chapter's moods but also drew parallels between the plots and characters without being typical or cheesy.

So that's my learning journey.  I'd love to know what FF stories you feel you've learnt something from and what?

To review or not...

Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 11:45 AM

I have something that I wanted to ask the Forest about. Lately I've come across two author profiles and both have had some personal issues in their life. Both of these authors have said that they will continue posting their stories when they have a chance. Both of them mentioned what was going on and if I knew them in RL I would give them giant hugs. I'm glad that they feel somewhat comfortable letting us know what's going on.

Here's the issue I have. I'm very disheartened that some fans of their stories feel the need to leave hateful reviews and even threatening messages because they are not updating. How do you guys feel about this, do you think it's ok to leave a bad review just because you're upset that the fic isn't finished? Have you ever receieved a review like this? How did it make you feel?

I haven't posted any fics yet because I haven't gotten far enough into my storylines to feel justified in posting, but this kind of thing makes me really nervous to even try.

Merry

SNEEK PEEK OF TOMORROW'S EPISODE!!

Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 8:45 AM

From a review today....

As played by Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, the Salvatore brothers make vampires look good . . . and by that, we mean bad. Sinfully, delightfully bad. With Season 3 premiering Sept. 15, the series has put a stake through any initial comparisons to the Twilight film series. Yes, it does star a young, beautiful woman torn between two hunky immortals. But the body count is higher; the sex is hotter and heavier (and no one is waiting until their "vampire wedding day"); the pace of storytelling is breathless with its clever twists and turns; and the actors inhabit characters far more complex and challenging.

ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING VAMPIRE DIARIES GOES IN THIS CAMPFIRE! YAY!
