a subject near and dear to my heart

let's talk about food

i love food.

i really, really do. eating it, cooking it.

actually, my dad is trying to talk me into writing a cookbook because apparently, i have this talent for making cooking accessible to you goobers who burn water.

anyway, ^^that's^^ a picture of mini browned butter pumpkin pies. i love pumpkin. i mean like... if it's pumpkin-flavored, i will try it. this is the best time of year, food-wise, because of all the pumpkin.

and turkey. oh man, i love me some turkey. from what i understand, not-americans don't get why we love turkey so much, and my answer is YOU'VE NEVER HAD IT THE WAY I COOK IT.

i love halloween; i LOVE christmas. but thanksgiving? oh god. i'm in my element. i start cooking at 9am and i don't finish until about 7pm. every. single. year. i put all guests to work and we roll out a feast that would satisfy anyone's hunger for food. deep-fried turkey injected with a cajun marinade that i make and brined for 24 hours beforehand then rub with creole seasoning and fry with an onion, filipino lumpia and cornbread hush puppies that i fry directly after the turkey, garlic 4-cheese mashed potatoes, green bean/asparagus casserole, toasted pecan sweet potato/bourbon pie, pecan pie made with molasses and maple syrup not freaking corn syrup, corn souffle, real giblet gravy, dressing made with 4 kinds of bread that i start leaving out to stale a week in advance, lol van de kamp's brown-n-serve rolls because those things are like a buck and they're way better than any bread i could ever make, that bourbon cranberry sauce i got from an ADF camper a while back, hot buttered rum made with cider from the farmer's market and a handle of captain morgan, pumpkin pie, of course,  trays of cookies and pies my friends and family bring over, lots of beer, lots of yelling, lots of cheer.

anyone hungry?

get in here and post sexy pictures of delicious food. talk about your favorites. exchange recipes, ask for recipes, tell us what's for dinner.

let's talk food.

oh, and feed a tree while you're here. and don't forget the weekend freeforall starts tonight.

fyt: this entire freaking post.

Once a week we open up the HELP DESK so people can ask questions, make requests and get advice.

If you have amnesia about a fic, this is the place to ask about it!

If you have a request for a type of story or a book, this is your spot.

If you are unsure about something that has to do with ADF, ask here.

If you have requests, questions or amnesia about any other areas in your life?

This is your campfire. Ask away! Many people like to answer!

You can ask about anything here, not just questions about fanfic. ALL questions are fair game!

WELCOME TO HELP DESK WEDNESDAY!

I don't care. I love it.

Wednesday September 26, 2012 at 5:51 PM

This song, for example.

Other examples:

I take J's undershirt when he walks in the door and wear it all night long. Sometimes, it's damp with man-sweat and grody. I don't care. I love it.

I write terrible things that will never see the light of day and call it srs bsns. I don't care. I love it.

I ignore grossed out side-eye glances when i eat cold chef-boyardee "pasta." I don't care. I love it.

Most importantly, even though he's like, anti-every-guy I've ever been attracted to, I think Zac Efron is hot. But only when he's not trying to have facial hair, which is a whole different situation, because I love beards.

but still--

I DON'T CARE. I LOVE IT.

gimme yours.

Tell us what you are reading RIGHT NOW!

Books and Fanfiction alike!

Please link if you are reading fanfiction or give us a nice summary if you are reading a book. We also LOVE reviews and discussing stories, so tell us what you think of what you are reading!

Special Assignment:

Let me preface this by saying that I am a life-long die-hard Green Bay Packer fan. FOR YOUR SPECIAL ASSINGMENT: Rec a book or a story where some gross form of injustice happens. It can be someone wrongly accused of a crime, mistaken identity, or whatever. You know the drill.

BUT, AS ALWAYS, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO IGNORE THE SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT AND REC ANYTHING!

As always, read, review, and let 'em know you saw their fic rec'd on ADF.

How do you feel about vampBella? Anyone else feeling that whenever she's vampized she becomes less relatable, in canon, movie and fic? I have this secret hope that an author I adore will give us an AU where Bella remains human. Don't ask why. I have absolutely no reason to hope that.

planetblue rocks my world

Monday September 24, 2012 at 11:02 PM

There is so much I love about this fandom. The fic, the fic, the fic, the Forest, so many great friends.

The one thing I love the very best is my bestie - planetblue

4EVA

I met her here, in the Forest. I was a newbie, quietly picking my way through the campfires. She was the knowledgable camper, always fast with the fantastic rec's, helpful titles and positive responses. Somehow I tricked her into becoming my friend and now I can't imagine a day going by without talking to her. She's funny, smart and just an amazing person.

Today is HER BIRTHDAY!!

So please join me in wishing her a wonderful day and thanking her for all of those great fics, for the copies of the stories you can't find anymore (because she has all the good stuff!) and for her recs and suggestions.

She loves:

Really good lemons

and really strong Edwards!

Her very favorite stories are great (complete) EPOV stories. So dig deep into your favorites list and lets return the rec favor to her! In that spirit, my rec is:

My Biggest Mistake, My Greatest Salvation »reviews
Edward has spent all of his thirty-two years trying to be the man his grandfather raised him to be. When he wakes up married to a young, scared, pregnant stranger, this is one mistake he won't leave in Vegas.
Twilight - Rated: M - English - Drama/Hurt/Comfort - Chapters: 31 - Words: 113,338 - Reviews: 5480 - Updated: 8-8-12 - Published: 3-20-12 - Edward & Bella - Complete

This campfire approved by the lovely eksmith (thank you!)

She what now?

Monday September 24, 2012 at 7:04 PM

Take a good look at this picture.

What you’re looking at is an engagement photo of Lauren Adkins and her betrothed, Cut-Out Edward Cullen. For those of you side-eyeing your computer screens, yes. This is, indeed, a posed-for portrait announcing and celebrating a couple’s newly engaged-to-be-wed status.

Over the course of the next few weeks Adkins, a Las Vegas artist, will be planning her wedding to a cardboard cut-out of Edward Cullen. There are wedding invitations to be sent, floral arrangements to be chosen, an appointment for tasting cakes to be made and most importantly, the happy couple has recently booked their venue, a chapel in Las Vegas where Elvis will unite them as husband and wife. No, really.

Who does this?

Well, Lauren Adkins does. But is she a crazy twi-fan, similar to the women you’ve read about who have named their babies Edward or Bella; who have entire rooms in their home dedicated to pictures of Robert Pattinson; who have tattoos of Taylor Lautner’s face across the entire span of their backs?

Yeah, Lauren Adkins is a nut.

And she’s brilliant.

Her engagement and wedding, both of which are actual, legitimate undertakings, are the latest of exhibits and social commentary pieces going toward her degree, a Master's of Fine Art.

Now, here’s where this whole thing gets interesting. Ms. Adkins has been active in the Twilight Fandom for a few years now and she’s as quick to poke fun at herself as the rest of us. But she gets it. She didn’t observe the phenomenon from the outside looking in and think “this is batshit.” She is a part of it and in true fandom style, she wants to share her Twilight experience with the rest of us.

The vows she will be taking with Cut-Out Edward Cullen will consist of the traditional, standard marriage vows:

For Better or for Worse: Because haven’t the majority of fandom members stuck by this vow to fandom itself? Sometimes, it’s all happy friendship-forming, great-story-reading, silly, hysterical, gif-sharing fun…and sometimes you’re pulling your hair out, disgusted at the notion that you still show up and participate. Why am I here again? I'm not going back.  But you do. You come back. Because it is, after all, for better or for worse.

Forsaking All Others: We’ve all shut out certain things and/or people for the sake of fandom, whether it's ignorning a rambling spouse while reading fanfiction or opting to stay home on a Friday night to follow a post or maybe not doing a damned thing during your first read of Twilight or taking an extra long lunch to read more about Robert Pattinson canoodling with Kristen Stewart.

In Sickness and Health: You’ve been here when this fandom was fledgling. When it was under attack. When it was thriving.

Love, Honor, Obey: Speaks for itself, no?

Obviously, this is to be taken as a whole lot of hyperbole. No one laughs more at this ludicrous undertaking than Adkins herself. She and her beloved cut-out have done those things you do when you're getting married to the one you love, like drop by Macy’s to buy wedding rings (because they did, and it was wonderful).

When I took the time to really reflect on what Adkins is doing here, I found the social commentary to be brilliant in that thousands of Twilight fans have spent years devoted to this phenomenon by adamantly defending and protecting and serving the fandom, fighting with the fandom, and loving the fandom, for better or for worse. Meanwhile, the Future Mrs. Cut-Out is biting the bullet and just flat-out marrying herself to the entire thing because, in an off-beat sense, many women have already married themselves to the multi-faceted Twilight fandom.

The difference between me sitting in my chair reading fanfiction and the bride-to-be is that Adkins is going to stand at an altar in front of Elvis and actually say the vows some of us already obey. This is obvious-cliché-art-symbolism at its very, very best.

Over the course of the next few weeks, A Different Forest will follow Lauren and Cut-Out Cullen through their wedding prep right up to the actual ceremony through video, pictures, and commentary from the future Mrs. Cut-Out herself.

Have at it. Ask her questions, leave your thoughts, giver her your hearty congratulations or wish her luck :)

I...Don't Know About This

Monday September 24, 2012 at 4:06 PM

About the only good thing I can see in this is Sigourney Weaver as a vampire. I'd pay to see that but then again I'd pay to see just about anything with her in it.

Every time I see something about this movie my brain automatically thinks of this because of how similar the titles are:

Lol, gotta love the 80's.

Okay, so to make this interactive, what do you think of the Vamps trailer? What's your favorite vamp comedy? I think mine is Love At First Bite. Yes, I'm old.

The Emmys

Monday September 24, 2012 at 2:37 PM

I'm disappointed that there wasn't a CF about this yesterday!  Where's JandCo?  Where are our watchalong campers?

Okay, I'll admit that I don't watch much tv, at all, especially since we moved a year and a half ago and cut our cable.  In fact, we finally got an antennae to watch (free) tv just a few months ago.  I still don't watch it.  The only thing I watch is Project Runway online and I've been meaning to catch up on SYTYCD.

However, even though I don't watch the awards shows, I always either watch the red carpet pre-show, or I peek at the fashions online or in the magazines the following week.  I'm sure I'm not the only one.  And when I forget, I count on you lovely campers!

Which dress did you love?  Which dress did you hate?  Which dress would you love for yourself (assuming it would fit you perfectly, etc)?  Who won that you were thrilled about?  Who was robbed or snubbed?

I have no idea who won, except for DUCKIE!  I've only been able to stand to watch about five minutes of this show, but Jon Cryer will always be Duckie for me and I will always love him for it.

I usually don't care for mermaid-type dresses, but I think Sofia Vergara rocked this one.  The color was perfect for her skin tone.

Posted with permission of wtvoc and ljsummers.  Thanks, ladies!

(omg, I never start CFs, please come roast marshmallows with me! Also, I couldn't resist adding a Colin Firth tag, even though he wasn't there.  I think.)

VVD & Twilight Crossovers

Monday September 24, 2012 at 1:20 PM

I hope I'm not overstepping by posting without approval. If so, I sincerely apologize!!

I know someone was looking for crossover fics not too long ago, and I found an older one that I'd never read- I'm not too far into it, but so far it's pretty good!

What kind of crossovers do you like? Leave links and let us check them out!

Here is my recommendation:

Ravenous:

Edward left after Bella's 18th birthday and kept his word never coming back. Finally moving on, Bella goes to college as far from Forks as she can get where she stumbles into the arms more trouble than she'd ever bargained for. Damon x Bella, AU, Rated M

Hopefully the link will work!

So come on in and see who won the crown this week!

Another Fifty Parody

Sunday September 23, 2012 at 3:27 PM

She's an author friend of mine, a very talented erotica writer. There's an anthology coming out in November called Fifty Writers on Fifty Shades of Grey. Sadly, I'm not in it but a lot of other amazing erotica writers are including my boss at Circlet Press. Here's a link to the Amazon page:

To make this more interactive post any new parodies you've come across lately (doesn't have to be on Fifty Shades) or just come share your thoughts and feels on all this.

*I know there are campers who love Fifty Shades. This post is not meant to be insulting to any of you. I just thought this parody was funny.

Rob Out and About

Our boy attended The Van Cleef & Arpels Dinner for LA Dance Project last night.

Source: http://robpattinson.blogspot.ca/2012/09/pictures-of-rob-at-dinner-for-la-dance.html

To make this interactive, what do you think of him attending? How does he look? I think it's wonderful that he's doing something productive and for a great cause.

More pics inside.

Ranger edit: Knocked the pic down to 515 pixels across due to ADF formatting. That's pretty much the biggest an image can go without getting smushed.
