Hold Onto Yourselves

Wednesday February 6, 2013 at 9:07 PM

FilmNation announced that "Hold Onto Me" has gone into pre-production.

I hope this means that this movie will definitely get made, because it sounds

like a great fanfic  like it has potential!

Which of Rob's upcoming movies has you the most excited?  What do you think of this pairing?  Personally, I love Carey Mulligan and I think there is some potential for great chemistry here.  And Rob as a heartbroken, vengeful criminal?  Swoon!!

Early Help Desk for all of you who need help

Wednesday February 6, 2013 at 8:18 AM

Once a week, unless I fail, we open up the HELP DESK so people can ask questions, make requests and get advice. There have been LOADS of people starting campfires looking for fics lately so I expect this to be packed with amnesiacs and lost souls.

If you have amnesia about a fic, this is the place to ask about it!

If you have a request for a type of story or a book, this is your spot.

If you are unsure about something that has to do with ADF, ask here.

And, for the upcoming holiday, If you want to know the best way to tell the boy you are crushing on that you love him, we may be able to help!

If you have requests, questions or amnesia about any other areas in your life we like to answer those as well. I don't care if you want to know about trimming your puppy's nails. If it is bothering you, here is the place to ask. We won't judge.

This is your campfire. Ask away! Many people like to answer!

WELCOME TO HELP DESK WEDNESDAY!

Need Help to find a fic...

Tuesday February 5, 2013 at 7:02 PM

Hey, girls, it's my first campfire so be nice to me, please. I'm a little shy and don't know what to write.

I'm trying to find a fic with no success, so I thought you could give me a hand... it's a story of Bella pretending to be a boy to land a spot on Edward's boy band. He falls for her thinking she is a he (Billy) and soon he finds out the true, but the couple continues to hide her true identity from the rest of the band.

It´s a sweet story... Does someone remember the name or the author?

Any links woud be great, thanks.

Rob's Rover haircut

Monday February 4, 2013 at 2:13 PM

Hallelujah!  First pics of Rob on the set.

Quite a 'do, you got there Robert.  Like you're in prison.  Or a serial killer.  Why do I find him hot anyway?

A little interaction action:

Who looks best with really short hair, and who looks best with the longer locks?

My take:

Brad Pitt:  short is best (IMO)

Halle Berry:  short is FAB.

Orlando Bloom:  I only liked him with long blonde elvish hair.

Emma Watson:  Can't decide.

50 Shades will never die

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 5:28 PM

50 Shades of Grey will never ever die. We will be forced to read 50 Shades of every-single-thing-under-the-sun...forever. I am convinced of this now.

Take a look at what one author is doing to jump on the bandwagon:

 http://blog.karenwoodward.org/2012/08/fifty-shades-of-alice-in-wonderland.html

Melinda DuChamp has a fool-proof plan to make a living. What do you think of this? Is this ethical? How does this make you feel as a consumer... Would you even consider buying one of her books? I would think that there would be a backlash, and it would kill sales. But, apparently she's doing quite well.

But, just because something sells doesn't make it right. Admittedly, I've got some idealistic ethical standards, but shouldn't we all?

*Edited Note* I. Was. Wrong. Wrong to doubt this little book. I read it, couldn't help myself. And, it is hilarious, sexy, and very imaginative. It's not a parody of 50 really... just a play on the title. It's pretty great metafiction. It's only $2.99, and I've totally changed my mind about it. If any of you guys read it too, please let me know what you think!

I'm currently working on a book. And, I hope to publish and sell it. But, I have a HUGE problem with stealing any aspect of another author's work. To me, it is one thing to be inspired by a character or an event, but another to steal a title or a character.

For instance, in my book I think of it as a Romeo and Juliet love story. Two people from different worlds. Can they make it work? Can they be together? But, while I'm inspired by Shakespeare, I would never steal his title or other specific names. (Although I've thought of using Capulet as a place name as a tie-in.)

I'm meeting Norman Reedus! (Hopefully)!!

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 4:52 PM

Okay guys, excited and in a little bit of a pickle!! I just found out that Norman Reedus is going to be at the Full Moon Festival (Tattoo and Horror Fest) in Nashville the last weekend of March. Tickets are $45 for a weekend pass and I've been promising my nephew if they had another con or anything like it that came nearby I would take him since we both love the Reedus and Sean Patrick (who is also going to be there). My nephew is 11 and gets in free if I buy a ticket. Awesome right?

Problem: It's the same weekend my best friend's baby is due! In all the excitement of my nephew calling me with the news and everything, I didn't realize until a full two days later why that date sounded familiar! I already bought the ticket-what should I do ladies? Pray she has the baby the week before or after and still go? Disappoint my nephew, who is super *effing stoked and is only 11? How  do I tell the bestie if I do go? I'm not supposed to be in the room with her or anything while she is having the baby, but still. She's my best friend you know?

Also, has anyone ever heard of this festival or is going/has gone? Has anyone ever met any of the WD cast, or the Reedus himself? If so, share share!

AvengeRanger Edit -

KEEP IT CLEAN ON THE FRONT PAGE, YO.

Even on Super Bowl Sunday. Even graphics.

I've pasted it inside.

Oops! So sorry, didn't even think about it in my Norman Reedus Excitement Stupor lol! Apologies campers! Posted a clean one instead!!

Once upon a time...

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 2:32 PM

...there was a little fandom about some vegetarian vampires...

I've checked the oldest TwiFics on Fanfiction.net (2006!) and I've noticed that they were very short. The first one that turned into a long story, with many reviews, is:

The Lion and the Lamb by Alphie

It's one of the first ones I read in 2010. Sadly, it wasn't completed.

Here are the others: http://www.fanfiction.net/book/Twilight/10/0/1/2/0/0/0/0/0/6781/0/

I found this fandom in 2010. What about you? Were you already around in 2006?

romantization of abuse and sexual violence in

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 1:14 PM

I haven't been on in a while. My last semester at school was tough and has relegated me to lurking. But I need your help.

I've started researching my 3rd semester critical essay and am waiting for topic approval. If approved, I'm going to do a comparative study on the romantization of abuse and sexual violence in both popular and literary fiction. I'm going to argue that this trend has its roots in classic literary fiction such as "Lolita", "Jayne Eyre", "Wuthering Heights", and more recently Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead". I'm also going to reference Margaret Atwood's "Rape Fantasies" to reinforce portions of my argument.

So many of you campers are well-read. Does anyone know any current literary fiction novels that might fall into this category of romanticizing abusive traits in men that would normally villainize them? I'm looking for novels or short stories within the last 10-20 years, the more current the better.

Any suggestions would be great.

And since I've pulled you all into a more serious topic here is a rec of one of my favorite fun fics:

Family Therapy Cullen Style » by vjgm

Carlisle has had it with the children's constant bickering so he sends the Cullen's to family therapy. Suicidal Edward,Bella's fear of committment, Alice addicted to shopping, Rosalie's hostility, Emmett and Japer's gambling..who will survive? FUNNY

A Very Camper Birthday

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 12:15 PM

There's this camper here, goes by the name of Thimbles.

She's the definition of friendship.

If you know her, you know it's true. If you don't know her, you really should. She's one of the most caring people I've met in this fandom. She always has a kind word to say, even when she's feeling blue. She always has support to offer, along with a virtual hug.

Plus, she's Australian!

And today is her Birthday!

Come on in and wish this beautiful girl a beautiful birthday!

She loves this guy to bits and pieces:

She also loves The Rob. :)

Here's my rec:

Thimbles -- She has an Australian wine-making Edward and a new-to-down-under Bella coming soon! It's called Terroir, and it will be beautiful. Add her to alerts for this one. :)

You and Me

For twelve years we've shared clothes and everything else that matters. But now—today—I hate you. So much. I hate you every bit as much as I once loved you.

Facebook and us

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 11:52 AM

These past couple of months I've been trying to be more active on FB. Problem is, hardly anyone's interested in my posts, which are mainly on Twilight or Muse. I always tried to keep my rl seperate from my virtual life endeavors, but now that everyone's reading FSOG anyway I'm more ok with it. So, do you guys have fandom friends on your FB? Would you recommend it?

20 Random Questions

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Yes, I do cringe when someone posts something like this on Facebook or Tumblr.  So?  :-D

I started a new job this week.  I'm feeling "meh" about it.  I've spent the entire week asking people boring questions like "Where does this go?"  "Who do I give this to?"  "What does he/she do?"  YAWN.  Time to ask someone something non-office related.

My answers in the comments.

1) Put your iTunes on shuffle. Give me the first 5 songs that pop up.

2) If you could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be?

3) If you could meet a historical figure who is no longer living, who would it be?

4) Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 42, give me line 14. (Please provide the name of the book and the author too, in case we're intrigued!).

5) What do you think about most?

6) What does your latest text message from someone else say?

7) Do you sleep nude or with jammies on?

8) Do you have any strange phobias?

9) Ever stuck a foreign object up your nose?  If yes, what was it?

10) If you are outside, what are you most likely doing?

11) Simple but extremely complex. Favorite band?

12) What was the last lie you told?

13) Who is your celebrity crush?

14) Have you ever gone skinny dipping?

15) Do you have a collection of anything?

16) Do you believe in ghosts? How about aliens?

17) Smell the air. What do you smell?

18) What’s the worst place you have ever been to?

19) Do you drive? If so, have you ever crashed?

20) What was the last book you finished reading?

First 10k Race in 6 weeks

Sunday February 3, 2013 at 10:51 AM

Hey everyone!

I started running about 9 months ago. I've gone from barely being able to go one minute steady to now being able to run 5k in about 33-36 minutes depending on the day. lol. Anywho, I just signed up for my first 10k race, and I'm a bit terrified to tell you the truth.

It's about 6 weeks away, and I'm not quite sure how to start training for it. There's a bunch of different places online I've checked out, and the one I'm leaning toward is to run like I normally do (5k in 33-36) three times a week and then adding a km for the 4th run each week until I hit 10k.

Are there any other more experienced racers out there? Was wondering if you had any tips or insights you could share for the newbie here O.o

Also, is anyone participating in a Run For Your Lives Race? I live in Japan, so I unfortunately cannot participate, but I want to soooooo much!
