so the other day, i wandered into hot topic because i had some time to kill. the song "rooster" by alice in chains was playing and it took me a second, but i commented to the employee, a young-looking lad of about 19, that i didn't think i'd heard alice in chains played in hot topic when it was the 90s. he laughs and goes, "yeah, they let us pick out a playlist, and i made this one all pearl jam, nirvana, stone temple pilots, hole- that's courtney love's band. she was married to kurt cobain. from nirvana."

i blinked a few times and went, "honey, i looked like courtney love for an entire year in the 90s. you don't need to tell me who she is. i'm a lot older than i look." then we talked about 90s music for a while and i had to leave because he got so super stoked that i knew who sonic youth was and wanted to know what it was like seeing pearl jam in the 90s, and i suddenly felt very, incredibly old.

so yeah, my teenage years are making a comeback, apparently. hot topic guy told me that he's had to educate a lot of "kids" about good 90s music. 

whatever, man. i'm just stoked because apparently, overalls are coming back in.

Pleasant Earth Day, Earthlings

So, here's the deal:

I'm writing a story about a girl with schizophrenia who goes to a mental institution and finds solace in, that's right, the rain. She dances in it and learns to accept herself overtime.

Sound familiar? That's because I've written it before. As a fanfiction, with all the Cullens.

Now, I know how everyone seems to feel about p2p. I've heard the arguments and I even am somewhat against it myself. But the thing is, I'm literally taking the title, the very basic plot (girl with schizophrenia who dances in rain) and completely and entirely rewriting the rest. No Cullens, no characters who seem like Cullens, no evil doctors, no original character that I called Confetti.

Yes, the rewritten one will be called Counting on Rain. No, the mother will not be dead. The parents will be involved in the story, blah blah blah - you get it.

My question is, can this work or will you all dislike me? The thing is, I'd like to keep the original up, but really I can't if I do this. For obvious reasons. I guess what I am wondering besides will you all hate me is where is the line drawn with this kind of thing?

(And if you're wondering why I'm doing it at all, quite simply: it was literally my story. The whole thing was about my real life, basically. Maybe I shouldn't have written it as a fanfic in that case, but I did.)

I'm moving ADF from one server to another, you may have or may see some error messages.  85% of people are already hitting the new server from what I can see, I'm just waiting for the DNS changes to completely propogate.

Come tomorrow I will be disabling the old server, if at that point you can't get the site to come up just hit us up at @differentforest on twitter.

You should see a good speed bump from this upgrade as the other server was starting to get a little overwhelmed.

Just saw this mentioned on Edwardville and, yes, it's true. Author says she can email her story for free to those that still haven't read it. You can read what she says on livejournal HERE

IMO the author's quite talented (she's great at writing humor too). However, so far none of the P2P fics are stories I could get into. I can handle, even like, crying fests, but, idk, this was far too supernatural/sad maybe? Did you guys like Sleepers, Awake? Do you think it can be successful as a published story?

Okay, so I finally got my computer back and my old flight mate was awesome enough to let me borrow her wifi. Here are the pics I promised from graduating basic military training….(inside :p)

So tech school has been eventful. I’m materiel management, which means I’m going to be in Texas for not too long…I’ve already had a couple of tests, hung out and met some cool people, met a boy and dipped my toes In the thrills of dating (and the crappiness that is breaking up. Ugh, that was just a couple of hours ago.)

So yeah, eventful. ?

I need some advice. Mostly on the last mentioned event. Even though he had good intentions, it still hurts, and I feel really…ugh. I don’t even know why I’m feeling this. I’ve only known him three weeks (and to my fellow military campers, don’t worry, I didn’t do anything stupid. Not being able to do anything stupid was actually a factor in why he wanted to call it quits.) Details will be inside. If I don’t respond tomorrow, expect a reply next Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Does anyone use Mary Kay products?

I have a health concious friend so I'm hearing about chemicals in everything; therefore, I'm now paranoid.  I don't use much make-up but I loved how I loved in our make-overs.

In addition, I'm having issues.  I'm having backaches and cramping with this and I honestly can't remember if my last pregnancy was like this (though, because of the last one, I'm more afraid than ever).  I'm also having a hard time getting a doctor, as each one I called were either a little rude or didn't have the information I wanted/needed.  Doesn't help that our insurance is in the middle of a huge changeover to a newer company.  I'm trying to make sure I don't get a doctor nearest to me as my last experience was horrible and I refuse to have the same doctor and refuse to have my baby at the hospital near me.
