New Moon Breaks Records

Summit has announced that The Twilight Saga: New Moon has officially set a new all-time midnight box office record, taking in $26.27M from 3514 theaters.

This shatters The Dark Knight’s $18.4M midnight debut for a 3-day weekend. It also easily surpasses the all-time record for midnight showings which was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which took in $22.2M on a Tuesday night on its way to a 5-day weekend total of $158M. The Dark Knight went on to take in $67.17M that opening day, dropped 29.1% from Friday to Saturday to bring in another $47.65M, and ended with $43.6M on Sunday for an opening weekend total of $158.4M.

"Only Two of the Top 30 Grossing Films of this Decade Are Original"

Wikipedia has a list of the highest grossing films of this decade so far, and kottke noticed that of the top 20 films at the box office, only one movie was not based on a past film or tv show (remake/sequel), or an adaptation of an established property (be it a comic, book, play, toy…etc).

Which is the only original feature film to make it into the the top 20 grossing films of this decade (so far)? Answer after the jump.

Finding Nemo, which lands at #15 with $864.6 million.

If you take a look at the top 30 films from this decade, there is only one other original film property among the bunch, that being…

DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda, #30 spot with $631.7 million.

In fact, out of the top 50 grossing films of this decade, there are only 9 movies based on original properties. And five of those nine films were created by Pixar Animation Studios. How sad…

Now, I love Twilight as much as the next, but my question for you all is how do you feel about the movie industry today and its apparent lack of creativity and the need to bail out on books, television shows, etc?

I know I'm early, but I wanted to start her birthday party early.

Kimvi's actual birthday is Sunday Nov 22nd and what a weekend to celebrate it, right on the heels of New Moon.

She is the owner of a witty mind and fast fingers. (i only know from typing, but feel free to divulge any secrets in here)

She has impeccable tastes in all things related to the twi-verse as well as or including music, fanfics, liquor and most importantly pretty boys.

So Kimvi, in honor of you, it's time to start the weekend with body shots off of pretty boys. 

I throughly enjoyed New Moon. Taylor Lautner's acting wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, but rather pretty good. But now I'm at home and I've just realized that Eclipse - which is my favorite - will feature Kstew in a WIG. We all saw how horrible Jacob looked in the wig, and that cringeworthy Harper Bazaar photoshoot with the fake hair. WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN!?!?! I've seen that no amount of photoshopping and video editing will make that hair look normal, as evident with the photoshoot and Taylor.

If there's anyone out there who can reassure me that it is possible to make the wig look good, please do. What will you do if Bella Swan really does look like she's got a wig on in Eclipse? I may have to forfeit the 3rd movie.

I would really like to read about a fic with a different Bella. Everybody writes the same, innocent, blushing, sweet Bella. I would LOVE to see Edward meet his match. I love when people make Edward into a duchebag but I'd like to see the duche fall for a female duche. I don't know why I want to read something like this so bad but it just sounds appealling. Anyone know where I can find a rude, obnoxious, arrogant Bella. Please, I've looked everywhere for one.

Can you tell I'm bored tonight? I only got 3 hours of sleep last night after the midnight show, and hubs is currently passed out- BUT- I still can't fall asleep. 

 I did not record any of the movie! Don't be alarmed by "camera" in the title-

I did, however, act like a 12 year old- I was on a Twilight high- and find random people in the lobby of the movie theater to interview. You know, for shits and giggles. (I'm pushing 30 and I figured it was a little creepy if I did it alone, so I recruited some people I knew to assist me.)

Video 1- One of the chicks hadn't read the books, so...lame. 

Video 2- Disgruntled concession worker who doesn't like Twilight (Can you tell we're from the South? HA! I know you love the accents)  ;)

Video 3- Caught 2 of my students as they walked in the door. BIG fans- 1 has read all the books 8 times. The other has posters up all over her room. And vampire shoelaces. I'm totes getting some of those before Eclipse. 

By the way, the funniest thing I saw all night was a group of four 20-something guys taking pictures with the Eclipse poster in the lobby.

movie spoiler warning.

I freaking loved it. It was much better than the first movie in my opinion. One of the main things I was shocked to find about it, was this movie made me a Jacob fan. I have always and will always be Team Edward, but Jacob was just so darn likeable in this movie, and dare I say it, SUPER HOT! I feel like a total perv saying that with him being underage and all, but good god, I could stare at his naked wet chest all day! I was almost bummed when Jacob begged Bella not to leave with Alice and she did anyway. Of course she did, I knew it was going to happen, but for some reason, between Edward leaving and Alice showing up, I fell in love with Jacobs character. I kept cheering them on in my head whenever a possible kiss could happen. Now its a bit easier for me to swallow this love triangle they will have going in Eclipse.

I found the "Vision" really cheesy. I would have preferred to see Bella and Edward just holding hands staring into one anothers eyes, and then the camera moves in on her face and you see her red eyes, and they are smiling at one another. So I am going to pretend that's what the vision was instead of the frolicking.

Jasper just looked down right creepy in this one, and what was up with his hair?

Rosalie's wig looked better on film than in any of the pics I saw from on set.

I loved the voting scene esp the Emmett and Bella interaction (that's all I will say so I will not spoil anything)

Rachel was looking fierce in this one and I am disappointed that she will not be in the next one.

I heard on the radio that Rob has two different shaped nipples, and I didn't think twice about this until seeing his reveal in Volterra. Maybe it was just hair but they did look different shaped, lol. He is still drool worthy to me, even if his nipples are not symmetrical.

Did anyone else love Charlie in this one? I did so much. He has some really funny lines and he was so loving towards Bella.

And finally, I'm not sure if I am simply a hopeless romantic, but I really loved the dialogue and the chemistry between Edward and Bella in this one. The things he said to her just gave me goosebumps. In the first one, while I did like it, I felt like something was missing. Here they were supposedly drawn to one another and soon declaring that they could not live without one another, but I didn't see it when I watched the film. I didn't see the passion between them as much. This time around I did though and it was awesome.

So that's all I got I think. Yes there was a cliffhanger ending, but it wasn't really considering we all know what's going to happen. It was a cool place to leave it though.

Don't know if this has been posted up or not but this was hilarious. The interviewer comes off as a bit of a douche but he was really nice when he was interviewing people at the premiere. He was very respectful of the fans and didn't make fun, like some of the other interviewers. *looks at Fox reporter*
