new moon = major disappointment

just got back from the midnight showing

What do you think if an author puts that copyright symbol thingy on their work? Do you roll your eyes- or do you nod your head? I guess I can understand the urge behind it- I know there was that one case where someone took another's fanfic and published it as their own work. And that's sorta crappy.

What if you see a writer mouthing off on the boards? Saying awful crap, picking fights, white knighting for members of their cliques? Does that turn you off to their story, make you stop reading, stop reviewing?

I'm sorta fascinated with writerprimadonnaism. Andy Warhol said everyone's entitled to fifteen minutes of fame- how much 'fandom fame' does that translate into?

Who isn't going to a midnight showing tonight? I'm not. :( my sister (I'm not bitter) was in charge of buying tickets and she told me this week she got tickets to a Saturday night showing. Saturday night! She obviously didn't understand the importance and the urgency. Anyway, no one else in my RL likes Twilight and I'm a starving student who cant afford to buy another ticket (tickets online to the dome on sunset are $15). So I guess I have to wait till Saturday.  I'm feeling really jealous. i want to go tonight too!

So anyone else staying home tonight?

So, to keep myself distracted and not watching the clock counting seconds till New Moon...

I decided to clean out my Story Alerts on ff.net...

What I found made my jaw drop.

I am still waiting for alerts on stories that haven't been updated since 2004, that I apparently added in "00-00-0000".

The fic currently holding my record: Des Erreurs Passee by Jessica Scott, a Buffy x-over.  It hasn't been updated since 07-14-2004!!!

So what I want to know is:  Are you as much of a packrat as I am?  Do you ever "give up" on fics after so long without updates (and how long)? What fic in your stash is holding the record?

Oh, and of course, how are you distracting yourself till New Moon? (If you have to... if you don't, cause you've already seen it, I'm jealous you lucky _____)

So I never entered the soundtrack contest, but if I had, THIS

would have been my number one song for New Moon.  I think it perfectly describes how Jacob feels about Bella.

Here are my confessions...

I am a closet Twi-hard. NO ONE in my RL knows about my obsession with this saga. No one knows I've even read the books.

I check this site at least 5 or more times a day to check for any new videos or pics to feed my secret obsession.

I was disappointed when I first found out that Rob was going to play Edward. He didn't fit the image I had in my mind while reading the books. I can't remember when my attitude towards him changed, I think it was during all the interviews for Twilight. He's so humble and charming, I couldn't help but fall in love with him.

I have become insanely addicted to fanfic. While I love the way SM wrote her characters, I love the smut and lemons. Nothing beats reading about Edward bending Bella over the hood of his Volvo.

Speaking of fanfic, I have read maybe 100 fics, but I never review. Don't ask me why, I just never do. Maybe i'll start.

Any confession you would like to make?

is anybody else as fucking giddy as I am about seeing New Moon tonight!?!?  I can't seem to stop smiling, can't focus on work and bought the Ent Weekly with the trio on it to distract myself further.  I just came back from having lunch with a friend, and after squeeing with excitement about seeing an early showing tonight, he asked "How does a sophisticated, intelligent almost 30 year old justify having an obsession over a vampire love story?"

My only explanation - "I don't, it just is"  at which point the girl selling me the magazine gave a me a high five

I feel like I'm going to hyperventilate any minute. 

So to actually make this camp fire a little more sensible, i have a question

What do you and don't you like about the vampire mythology SM modified with the Twilight saga?  Do you think her vamps have it easy in comparison to some of the lore and mythology that exists in other novels?  I'm ambivalent about her vamps being able to go out during the day.  I think she made it too easy for them.   At least the Salvatore brothers have to wear rings to protect them from the sun in Vampire Diaries - that's cool magic.  How different would Angel and Buffy's story have been if he hadn't destroyed the Ring of Amara?  The twivamps seem to have gotten it all by SM getting rid of the folkloric beliefs, where vampires in general aren't completely infallible.

Here's my expectation/prediction phrase for New Moon:

CheeseWhiz Explosion That Will Leave A Smile On My Face For Hours Afterward.

It's gonna be cheesy. By most accounts, It's cheesy. But you know what? It's almost Thanksgiving, and a little Velveeta in the system around holiday time is totally appropriate. Bring on the wolfpack bad actors and Wooden dialogue, it will only make me cherish the experience more!

I don't ever write disclaimers. I don't understand why people do. I mean, I know that SMeyer wrote Twilight, and the authors are just using the characters in different ways. I know that the fanfic authors only own their plots. Anyone who doesn't know this has probably been frozen in the ice age and thawed out last month. I actually snort whenever I read a disclaimer.

So why do so many authors write disclaimers? It's growing on my conscious that more and more authors do write disclaimers, and I wonder if I'm making a faux pas or anything.

Help and tell me why you people write disclaimers, please!

Does anyone have any good recs regarding the Future? After Bella has been turned- it's 100 or so years ahead?

I've read a few- The Fallout (which I love) and a few others that have left impressions but I can't remember the titles.

My schedule prohibits me from going to see New Moon until NEXT WEDNESDAY- So I need some awesome stories to get me through my depression :(
