Regrets. You've had a few.

Thursday January 28, 2010 at 6:49 PM

Come gather around the campfire and tell us of your Regrets.

There are the things you really screwed up and you were just being plain stupid (see "Regretsy")

( this error makes me laugh and cry at the same time)

There are those things you wish you wouldn't have done like this guy:

There are those mistakes you have made:

And those times that you couldn't do something that you wish you could have:

Sometimes we make posts that start firestorms and we regret it. Sometimes we cause drama when we didn't mean to. Sometimes we wish we would have opened our mouth or shut it. Sometimes we feel like we missed our chance to do something AMAZING. But one thing is certain. We all have regrets.

****

Fill in the blanks:

I wish I would have ________ when I had the chance.

I wish I wouldn't have ________ but I did.

Someday I better damn well ____________ or I know I'll regret it for the rest of my life.

Road trip...

Thursday January 28, 2010 at 4:05 PM

So DH will be out of town 10 days on biz...

and since I live close to Forks, Port Angeles, and all the Twilight locations

I thought I would take a little road trip....

And~

gallantcorkscrews brought something up that I've been thinking about...

 " I am also grateful for Wikipedia, which tells me all the trees and shrubs of Washington and makes me sound like I've been there."

And Gondolier writes about the Ape Caves that are 45 minutes away, making me think she lives here and I'll run into her wearing my "Cliff-hucking floozy" t-shirt.

So what I wanna know is;

What would all you lovely campers, rangers, and writers like to see from the book or movie that will give a visual to your story.

Or can you find what you need on the internet?

I thought I would take tons of pics and if you tell me what you want pics of , it would make the trip more fun.

So I'm askin, use me people, use me while u can....

The only place that is forbidden is the Cullen house in Portland.  Yea, it's marked "Private No Trespassing" and they'll haul you off.  I guess the Nike owner likes his privacy for some odd reason.  geez!

Me and my girlie friend will be going in March and probably setting up camp in Forks...

(And yea, sorry, googlechrome is effing with my ability to post juicy pretties right now, so just imagine RPattz eating an ice cream cone....)

Twifans for Haiti

Thursday January 28, 2010 at 3:53 PM

Aside from a few posts here, I'm a serial lurker.  That being said, this project organized by MsKathy really makes me want to be more involved with the fandom if this is what is possible.  I just received my Twifans for Haiti compilation and it's 1800 pages long. 1800 pages!  It's amazing to me that in the 2 weeks since the earthquake, she has organized this rally/drive and the fandom has raised more than $75,000!  So, I just wanted to say thank you!

Edited to add a thank you to manyafandom as well.  Thanks! :)

Honesty of an Author

Thursday January 28, 2010 at 3:31 PM

Authors!
I’m always intrigued by the flow of the mind and the obsession of writing a story. So I wanted to know from authors.
Do you have a favourite Twilight story or chapter that you’ve written?
Do you every read your own stories once they are published? If not, why not?
~~~
Me!
I have never read any of the chapters that I’ve published. Once I’ve uploaded the said chapter I never go back to it. I have a copy of every chapter on a USB stick, but I never read it once it’s on FF or Twilighted. I’m such a nit-picking obsessive when it comes to my own words, so for health reasons I tend to shy away once it’s left my hands.
I’m a small fish so I have only written one and half stories. Though I do have several favourite chapters along with small inserts of dialogue that I love to look over.
I’ll be interested to know what your thoughts are.
they say you should practice writing every day...
post a prompt in the form of a movie poster or a clip from a movie.
someone else will write a quick fic drabble on it.
anyone can play- writers and non-writers alike- last time, neurocitis (or whatever your name is, dollface lolol) came up with amazing ones... and yet she refuses to write fic.
now show me your prompts!
banners make me drool
Thursday January 28, 2010 at 2:21 PM
some like soft hands, other likes big lips. I have a thing for banners.
and no, nothing sexual. banner as in banners for a fanfiction.
I am not a big fan of Master of the Universe. And I haven't read To Be Stabbed in the Front (even though I know I should) - but what these two have in common is that they each have a banner, which I drool over every time I see it.
And if I knew how to, I would post my fav banners which I have on my computer, but since I'm too stupid, I tell you:
The Hydraulic Level 5-banner - because everything related to HL5 makes me want to weep - and the Sanctuary banners with Robert Pattinson in the front, looking all hot and staring right into the camera. Me salivate.
So, tell me, ladies. What's your favourite banner?
Websites I am Grateful for
Thursday January 28, 2010 at 2:17 PM
Yes, I know my title has a hanging preposition. It annoys me, too.
So, firstly and mostly, is ADF. Love you guys. I am also grateful for Thesaurus.com, which I keep open while I'm writing (I don't have Office Word, just stinky Wordpad). I am also grateful for Wikipedia, which tells me all the trees and shrubs of Washington and makes me sound like I've been there.
What are your favorite Websites? (yes, I'm fishing for fun and useful websites). Do you have any writerly websites that you hit up? The Writer's Craft comes to mind. Or anything just plain silly?
Where else do you go besides ADF?
Best Kiss
Thursday January 28, 2010 at 1:55 PM
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's kiss in Twilight has been voted one of the best kisses of the last decade.
The tender moment, which occurred in the first film in the vampire saga, came fourth in the survey.
Madonna and Britney Spears'infamous lesbian kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2003 topped the poll conducted by department store Selfridges.
A source described the kiss as “one of the most memorable moments ever”.
"Madonna performing with both Britney and Christina was a big enough event in itself, but nobody - even the MTV people - expected what happened,” they added.
Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst were second for their romantic embrace in Spider-Man, while Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal's kiss in Brokeback Mountain came fourth.
The top-five was completed by Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz for their kiss in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
The survey was conducted by Selfridges ahead of the opening of its kissing booth at its flagship store in London next month.
R.I.P. J.D. Salinger
Thursday January 28, 2010 at 11:30 AM
One of my favorite quotes from "Catcher in the Rye" is "Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody."  I am very sad that this incredible, complicated author is gone. He inspired me more than he could ever know.
Discuss people that have inspired you.
NEW YORK -- J.D. Salinger, the legendary author, youth hero and fugitive from fame whose "The Catcher in the Rye" shocked and inspired a world he increasingly shunned, has died. He was 91.
Salinger died of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, the author's son said in a statement from Salinger's literary representative. He had lived for decades in self-imposed isolation in the small, remote house in Cornish, N.H.
"The Catcher in the Rye," with its immortal teenage protagonist, the twisted, rebellious Holden Caulfield, came out in 1951, a time of anxious, Cold War conformity and the dawn of modern adolescence. The Book-of-the-Month Club, which made "Catcher" a featured selection, advised that for "anyone who has ever brought up a son" the novel will be "a source of wonder and delight - and concern."
Enraged by all the "phonies" who make "me so depressed I go crazy," Holden soon became American literature's most famous anti-hero since Huckleberry Finn. The novel's sales are astonishing - more than 60 million copies worldwide - and its impact incalculable. Decades after publication, the book remains a defining expression of that most American of dreams - to never grow up.
Salinger was writing for adults, but teenagers from all over identified with the novel's themes of alienation, innocence and fantasy, not to mention the luck of having the last word. "Catcher" presents the world as an ever-so-unfair struggle between the goodness of young people and the corruption of elders, a message that only intensified with the oncoming generation gap.
Novels from Evan Hunter's "The Blackboard Jungle" to Curtis Sittenfeld's "Prep," movies from "Rebel Without a Cause" to "The Breakfast Club," and countless rock 'n' roll songs echoed Salinger's message of kids under siege. One of the great anti-heroes of the 1960s, Benjamin Braddock of "The Graduate," was but a blander version of Salinger's narrator.
The cult of "Catcher" turned tragic in 1980 when crazed Beatles fan Mark David Chapman shot and killed John Lennon, citing Salinger's novel as an inspiration and stating that "this extraordinary book holds many answers."
By the 21st century, Holden himself seemed relatively mild, but Salinger's book remained a standard in school curriculums and was discussed on countless Web sites and a fan page on Facebook.
Salinger's other books don't equal the influence or sales of "Catcher," but they are still read, again and again, with great affection and intensity.
iPad
Thursday January 28, 2010 at 10:13 AM
Umm. Yeah.  So... Anybody heard of Apple's latest bit of tech?
Just in case you've missed the buzz - Apple has come out with a tablet.
It is meant to compete with Kindle and the Sony Reader.
It is called the iPad.
So what I want to know is...
Do any of you guys use the readers or do you prefer good old fashioned books?
I use my iTouch all the time to read ADF and fic, does anyone else? Or is the tiny screen too big a pain in the ass?
Are you willing to fork over the mullah for the newest Apple gadget?
And, finally, does anyone else ROFL @ the name iPad?
wtvoc approved this message.
edit: oh, and btw, that sketch was on Madtv in 2006 - they were way before their time.
