Wide Awake Cookies

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 6:39 PM

I am craving Double Fudge Rendezvous cookies like no other! And I can't for the life of me find the recipe that was on the livejournal community for the cookies (blackhoodiecook). Does anyone still have the recipe? Or can anyone re-create it/link me to something similar?

To make it more interactive, what are some of your favorite recipes?

continuation error?

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 5:17 PM

RANGER EDIT: MAY CONTAIN MOVIE SPOILERS.

APPROACH WITH CAUTION

I saw Eclipse last night, and one part of it stood out to me loud and clearly as a huge mistake. Compared to the books, it's definitely wrong. And I'm almost positive that compared to the first 2 movies it's wrong, but maybe they just didn't cover it in the first 2 so that it wouldn't be a problem for this one.

Okay, I know this sounds horribly vague, and I'm 99% sure it isn't even a spoiler, but just in case, I'm putting the question that this is all about in the comments. And then people can discuss whether or not they think this was a mistake or intentional...

A Deadly Choice

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 5:02 PM

BannerThe worst day of my life occurred on November 6 2001, when just three weeks before my wedding a drunk hit and killed my fiancee.  They say that every fifteen minutes someone in the United States is involved in an alcohol related collision.  This is my story.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6099158/1/

Please read and review and spread the word. Drunk driving is not an accident. It's a choice and the consequences are deadly.

Stephenie Meyer saved the nation!

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 4:05 PM

Ok, this may or may not be offensive.

I thought it was hilarious. I couldn't figure out how to get the individual video on, so it's a cut and paste deal.

This is most definitely tongue-in-cheek.  What say you?

Please excuse me...

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 2:48 PM

But I need to have a TOTAL fangirl moment.  So I'm in NYC with the bf.  He's working some gig so I always stay at the hotel and just walk around.  Well we were meeting up for dinner and he's complaining about the gig he's on.

BF: "We're doing the red carpet part for some cartoon movie opening"

Me: "Oh which one"

BF: "airbender or something"

Me: "um... really..." ::insert some shaking::   "Oh Jackson is there!"

BF: "Whose Jackson?  Is he doing one of the voices?"

Me: "ITS NOT A CARTOON" shows him trailer "and Jackson.. well he's the guy i'm going to leave you for"

I would totally leave you a pretty of the Jackson but I'm on my phone so you should all leave some for me (please!).

WEDNESDAY NIGHT OLD SCHOOL PIMP & REC

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 2:41 PM

Let's do this like we used to. Lots of Pimps, even more recs and some awesome bannerage.

FYI, I am not going to be watching this thread (but there is always a ranger watching.) I have date with my husband to see Eclipse.

KEEP POSTING YOUR REVIEWS

in the review campfire but I won't be reading any of them until I see the movie.

I will try to post another review campfire when I get home but my flasks are full and it is a date so if I don't get to it, there WILL be a new one in the morning.

Until then, KEEP USING THE OLD THREAD TO REVIEW THE MOVIE AS TO NOT SPOIL PEOPLE

and remember, you can always SAVE the thread to your favorites by pressing the pretty heart next to the campfire name!

NOW ONTO THE PIMPS AND RECS!

What a girl wants

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 2:02 PM

For years people on the outside have been trying to "get" the Twilight craze. Most of them still think it's about the books, but we know better.

But the article posted by GAW got me to thinking. This fandom says a whole lot more about what women are hungry for than we are willing to admit.

I'm gonna ask that you put on your big girl panties and come on in to play!

I wanna talk about the man / women dynamic. What women really want and how we have confused the hell out of men.

My ideas will be in the comments.

Eclipse box office

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 1:29 PM

Per Perez...

Thanks to all you Twi-hards out there, Eclipse brought in an estimated $30 million from more than 4,000 domestic theaters showing midnight Tuesday performances.

WoW!

The film hasn't even made it through opening day and it's already breaking records!

The previous record - $26.3 million - from midnight showings was set by New Moon back in November.

Will Eclipse take the reigns of the Twilight Saga and steal New Moon's record for best opening day of $72.7 million?

Why So Hot??

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 11:10 AM

just read this on CNN.com....

Why women find vampires hot

(CNN) -- Vampires, werewolves, fallen angels and fairies lurk in the shadows, their intentions far from honorable. Think I'm talking about villains? No, I'm talking about fiction's hottest heroes.

Monsters have always been able to elicit thrills and chills, but for a lot of women lately, those shivers are more of delight than fright. Just turn on your TV, visit a movie theater or wander through a bookstore, and you'll see multiple examples of morally questionable men sporting fangs, fur or fairy wings, all about to sweep women right off their normally sensible feet.

Through fiction and mythology, the paranormal bad boy was usually defeated in the end, but now, you'll more often find him going home with the girl.

Just look at Charlaine Harris' vampire Eric Northman. He might be ruthless and manipulative, but he still has women around the world wishing he'd pick their necks to snack on (myself included, heh). Likewise, Kelley Armstrong's werewolf enforcer Clay is the epitome of antisocial, yet his encounters with Elena are sexier than a throaty growl in the bedroom.

What is it about these anti-heroes that make them so appealing? Is it their good looks --show me an ugly one, and I'll show you a true rarity -- or is something else?

Perhaps some of the appeal of the dangerous-but-yummy paranormal anti-hero lies in his scorn for societal expectations. Yes, women have come a long way, but there are still some cultural stigmas more associated with women than men.

Rec something similar?

Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 10:45 AM

Ok so I've read this story A Little Crazy by LolaShoes and tby789 a while ago and absolutely LOVEd it. It is beautifully written and so not cliche! In fact I liked it so much that I read it again yesterday and am still thinking about it!

Now Can anyone suggest stories that are written in the same style? They can be AU or AH and not even  necessarily canon pairing but as long as they are written beautifully I would love it.

Ps: I am waiting for my final's results and going batshit crazy and cannot for the life of me concentrate on anything so just want to lose myself in  great story. I very much appreciate your suggestions:-)

Eclipse: Pay Attention!

Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 7:17 PM

We want your reviews!

Did you like Eclipse? Did you hate it?

Did you LOVE IT?

In order to keep peace in the forest, we are going to have a writing contest of sorts. Not one where Edward is a janitor and Bella is the beautiful co-ed who notices him even though they are from different worlds. This is a REVIEW writing contest.

What do you have to do?

GO to Eclipse and when you come home, write down what you thought. Tell us about the crowd, take pictures if you'd like or just REVIEW the movie!

GIVE THE FILM A STAR RATING - ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR OR FIVE. Five being excellent and one being Horrible. This way we can compile them next week and come up with an ADF average.

Every day, now through Sunday, there will be An ECLIPSE REVIEW CAMPFIRE. This will be the exclusive place to post eclipse reviews and discuss those reviews. This way, people who have yet to see the movie can trounce through the forest in peace without fear of spoilers and those of you have seen it can talk like crazy in your little A-Frame. (I love tossing in camping analogies, sue me)

I will be picking the winning review along with another judge. Sadly, I can't tell you what you will win yet. I have to think of something awesome!

And don't worry, we will think of something for those of you who CAN'T see the movie this week even if you wanted to.

IN THIS CAMPFIRE, you can ask questions. But I would also LOVE some fancy "Eclipse Review Campfire" artwork, because you know I suck at it. **AND WHEN YOU GET BACK FROM YOUR MIDNIGHT SHOWING, YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR THOUGHTS RIGHT HERE**

Not enough hours in the day

Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 5:41 PM

i'm going out TONIGHT.

this is NEARLY unprecedented.

i NEVER have time to go out.

i'm ALWAYS busy.

yes, i am hyperbolyzing, but hey- it's a topic.

how do you find the time to fit it all in?

i know some of you are moms, employees, writers, net-surfers, avid-fans-who-never-miss-an-episode-of-some-show-or-other

and here i am, incapable of posting the last chapter of River Dam or Sanctuary because i got side-swiped by High Noon.

tell me how you do it.

and while you're here, tell me which one should update first. they require about the same amount of work.

thank you.

Frugality

Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 4:49 PM

So, I can't believe the deal I just snagged on Remember Me! A few days ago someone posted an $8 off coupon so I printed it off and thought if I found it for relatively cheap - i.e. less than $10 I would buy it. Well, Walmart has it online for $12 but in store it was $19.99. So I printed the Walmart online page out, took it to Best Buy here in town, where they price match and asked them if they would price match and give me the coupon on top of it. They did and I walked away with Remember Me for a total of $4.33! Score! Sorry, I'm frugal and a sucker for a steal like that!

RANGER EDIT: TALK ABOUT DEALS YOU KNOW ABOUT OR HOW YOU SAVED MONEY RECENTLY!

rec me.... please!

Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 3:47 PM

Hello all! I am having a wonderful day.... I got my new tat, a new ipod touch (my old one has been MIA for the past two months) and I get to see Eclipse tonight! =D

But while my day is going good I need some recs to read.... I'm staying at a friends house tonight after the movie and most of the day tomorrow and she has dial-up internet! it is SOOOO slow! So some recs would be great to keep me entertained. I am planning on downloading them to my laptop to take with me.

Also, any pics/ gifs or anything like that would be greatly appreciated ( I need a new background for my ipod)

Here is my tattoo:

The pleasedon'tragonmeIcan'tseeitthisweekend post

Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 3:29 PM

I am on a biz trip.  I get home tomorrow night, where i will be buried in mounds of laundry and work until we leave on Friday for a weekend with the family.

Yeah.

That means there is no Eclipse in my future.

Everyone that isn't/won't/can't/see it this weekend - come hide in here.  We'll be cool, I'll make drinks and we'll keep each other company.

ranger post and a message to lillybellis

Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 3:25 PM

all right, gents

someone just PM'd me, asking me to remind you people that not everyone gets to see eclipse this week

in fact, some people in the world have to wait weeks to see it where they live

so please, i know we've all read the books and we already know what's gonna happen

but be considerate to your fellow campers and put a spoiler warning when you discuss stuff from the movie.

also, on behalf of the collective sanity of the rangers, let's not have 5 jillion ZOMG I SAW ECLIPSE IT WUZ AH-MAZING campfires

if you can make it interesting, do it!  i'll be bringing my camera and taking pics of my journey to hollywood to hang out with PreferBrunettes, erica_whatever, and jennyeffingfly.  take pics, show us the madness!

that is all.

oh, and lillybellis- obviously, my love for you is ginormical, and it hurts that you have to degrade our relationship in such public places.
