Improvised Twilight Parody

Saturday January 14, 2012 at 8:26 AM

Hey! My first-ever campfire!

If  you're in Boston/New England, and you're bored on a Friday night....

http://www.improvboston.com/shows/my-dark-love

I saw it in a workshop a while back and it is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. It's basically crackfic acted out on stage--every show, they spin a wheel to determine what supernatural creatures will be involved. When I saw it, it was a ghost and the devil.

Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommended. And if you're going to go, drop me a PM--I'm always happy to hit up shows here. (Full disclosure: I know a couple folks in the cast, and other folks who do stuff at this theatre.)

Anyone else seen any good Twi-parodies lately?

Saturday January 14, 2012 at 6:44 AM

HAPPY NEW YEAR DEAR CAMPERS!

As my first 2012 campfire, I would like to let you discover my new addiction : Rookie Blue.

She is Andy McNally, nice rookie.

He is Sam Swareck, hot and sexy offficer undercover busted by McNally.

She becomes his Rookie and, GOD, the sexual tension between those two is killing me!

Hebergeur d'image

So : Do you watch Rookie Blue? Are you in love with manly-hottie-sexy-Swareck like I am?

I'm not sure if I need to get this campfire approuved...But surely, Swareck's sex-appeal is so unreal that this falls into surnatural subjects..., isn't it?

My rec is Water landing by camoozle : it's amazing !

High School's a lot like a plane crash. You check for the exit. You secure your mask. And if you're lucky, you survive. AU, AH, All EPOV.

Danieller's got an interesting new AU out

Friday January 13, 2012 at 10:00 PM

I know, I know. Yet these first two three FOUR chapters make it seem really interesting. Probably even more than MWE. And, coming from me, that says a lot. Here: Mark of beauty

No banner or anything. Just my perception.

Merlin

Friday January 13, 2012 at 8:02 PM

So, I have recently discovered the amazingness that is Merlin.  There's a deviant artist I follow for her Supernatural and Doctor Who cartoons, but when I noticed some Merlin ones, I got curious.

I love it. Merlin and Arthur have a wonderful bromance. =)

Does anyone else watch this? What about fanfiction? Anyone have any recs?
(I've only seen up to the first two episodes of Season 3, so please be aware of the spoilers!)

Let's discuss!

Also, here's a wonderful Merlin/Twilight story I found:

When Bella Met Merlin » by AuroraKnight
In which Bella meets Merlin and eventually ponders the origins of vampire eye color. Oneshot.

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

Friday January 13, 2012 at 7:41 PM

One of my very favorite authors, John Green, released his new book on Tuesday. The Fault in Our Stars is, without a doubt, his best book so far. I know that there must be more NERDFIGHTERS here in the forest, so I hope I am not the only one who was so excited for this.

If you do not already know who John Green is, let me tell you just how awesome this guy is. He literally signed all 150,000 copies of the preorder of TFiOS. There is video evidence on the vlogbrother's YouTube channel of him injuring himself due to all the signing he did.

Regardless, this book is amazing if you know who the author is, or not.

From Amazon:
"Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love."

If you occasionally take adventures in the world of nonfic, hold in your hand, smell the wondefulness of real books, please look in to this one!!! I know it's at WalMart and KMart and is READILY available on the internet.

Thank you for your time :)

Twilight TV??

Friday January 13, 2012 at 7:07 PM

So....just saw this.  Apparently with the recent purchase of Summit, the new Lionsgate powers that be feel that there is "ongoing value" in the Twilight series after the release of BD Part 2 in Nov.  Implying that there is the possibility of another film or TV.  You never know how much truth there is to these kinds of things but I am curious as to everyone's thoughts.

Would you watch a Twilight tv show?  Would it ruin it?  Who would you cast?  Can you think of any other movies that made the jump to tv and survived?

I personally can't see anyone but RPatz for Edward, but the rest I can l swap out.

I'm Drunk!

Friday January 13, 2012 at 6:11 PM

What!? Two beers. Ridic.

So, anyway. I'm watching the Twilight movie with commentary from Rob, Kristen, and director on.

Does anyone else find Katherine I-can't-be-bothered-with-looking-up-her-name-spelling Hardwick really... awkward? She's really, really awkward.

I don't own the other movies, but I'm a sucker for extras so I'm thinking about investing. Do the other movies have commentary with Rob and Kristen?

One Million Thoughts. Like Hamlet.

That guy is hilarious. Rob, not Hamlet.

WHY do old stories have bursts of popularity?

Friday January 13, 2012 at 5:43 PM

I HAPPENED TO LOOK AT THE SIDE BAR JUST NOW, AND I SAW THIS:

and it made me wonder what the heck made a bunch of people suddenly decide to dredge that thing up.

Do you ever wonder why really old stories show up on the hotlist like that?

Better yes: do you know the answer?

What old fics have you been reminded of by that little window on ADF?

Some Funny for your Friday

Friday January 13, 2012 at 2:38 PM

Yay!  It's Friday and the 13th.

Have you come across a Facebook post that was hilarious?  How about funny Craig's list ads?  I know we're all familiar with the Dog Walker ad and the Roommate ad, but what about the Yoga mat for sale ad (see first post inside)?

Since its Friday...

Friday January 13, 2012 at 1:46 PM

I wanna know, what would you do for a Klondike bar?

Or any other candy/icecream. Because last night I had absolutely no chocolate in my house. It was terrible.

Would you murder someone? Get in a fight with a badger? WHAT?

Bella & Edward- Humanitarians

Friday January 13, 2012 at 1:14 PM

I am looking for a fanfic like Behind Enemy Lines or Scintilla where Bella and Edward travel to countries in need and help out as part of their job or just their passion.

Thank you,

Rec: . My Beautiful Storm » reviews

New Face of Balenciaga Perfume

Friday January 13, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Kristen Stewart's landed a glamorous new role: fashion muse!

The Twilight Saga actress will be shedding her Bella Swan jeans and flannels for the edgy, cool-girl couture of Balenciaga as the face of the brand's newest perfume.

"I love Balenciaga fashion because it is incredibly bold and forceful, yet feminine and sexy," Kristen said in a statement. "I found there was a real creative freedom in this project. I feel blessed and really proud to be the face of this new fragrance."

The fashion house's head designer, Nicolas Ghesquière, added, "Kristen Stewart embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence...She shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga."

The 21-year-old actress, whose edgy style has blossomed in the past year, has worn Balenciaga on a number of occasions, including a New Moon photo call in Spain in 2009 and at the Los Angeles premiere of Twilight in 2008.

Balenciaga's new fragrance, which has yet to be named, will launch in the fall.

What do you think?

PW follow up on Fifty Shades of Grey as fic

Friday January 13, 2012 at 9:25 AM

E.L. James and the Case of Fan Fiction

After running a piece earlier this week about a British author whose erotica series sparked interest in Hollywood, a number of readers commented that the series, Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James, began as Twilight fan fiction. Some of the commenters went so far as to say there could be copyright infringement issues, because of the connection.

A spokesperson for Little, Brown, which publishes Stephenie Meyers's Twilight saga, did not specifically address Fifty Shades of Grey, but said that "it is Hachette's policy to proactively monitor and investigate all reports of potential copyright infringements." According to Valerie Hoskins, who is based in the U.K. and represents James for film, Fifty Shades of Grey does not align closely with Twilight; Hoskins noted that in James's series, for example, there are no vampires.

Amanda Hayward, CEO of The Writer's Coffee Shop, the small writers community-turned publisher that released Fifty Shades of Grey, said James's book "bore very little resemblance to Twilight," even though the story began as fan fiction. Hayward added: "Essentially only the character's names were borrowed, the setting, plot, abilities, relationship structure, feel and focus of the story were original. Twilight and Fifty Shades Trilogy are worlds apart, new readers are totally surprised it was ever a Twilight fan fiction story. We see it in the reviews over and over again."

It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here...

FFA is here!

Friday January 13, 2012 at 8:46 AM

Happy Friday!

It's not just any old Friday, but it's a ~special kind of Friday...

FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!

So tell me campers - are you superstitious?  What do you do if a black cat crosses your path?  Would you open an umbrella inside?  Toss salt over your shoulder if you spill it?

Come in here and share your superstitions - maybe you're not alone!

FFA is on until Sunday evening.  You're free to post any fires you want during this time - just refrain from self pimping (the pimping campfire is still up and full of goodness), nudies and nasty language on the front page.  If you're unsure about your content you can page a ranger or refer to the Rules/FAQ section.

The forest thrives when you click the ads - give those a lookie too.

 Party on, friends!

Sometimes shouldn't write what you dream

Friday January 13, 2012 at 7:41 AM

So last night I dreamed I wrote TRADING SPACES fanfic.

You read that right, Trading Spaces. You know, the first home improvement reality show from the late 90s early 2000s. Two homeowners swap houses to redecorate one room in each other's home in two days. With the help of a designer and a thousand dollar budget (oh my god I still remember the intro sound bite)

Trading Spaces, y'all

More of my depraved mind inside.....

And to make this interactive, tell me what random shows, books, movies etc... you could see as fan fic. Matt Lauer and Ann Curry anyone???

Friday January 13, 2012 at 6:24 AM

Oh I have to share this. I was exchanging PMs on fanfiction net with another author who like me writes historical fics,  and discussing how to write lemons that are period appropriate (Sexuality has changed a lot, apart from the basics).

And here is how my sentence was transformed:

Of course coitus interruptus existed, but again, it is their first time .. no boy at his first experience would have restraint enough ... And, to bring each other to ** with other means - like it happens today - would not be very realistic period-wise.

Please see inside for the word that was changed, and tell me if it has ever happened to you. I mean, on fanfiction net the word is usually used, and we were exchanging personal messages, which are supposedly private!
