Mafia

Friday January 18, 2013 at 6:38 PM

If you have any mafia stories please inbox me.

AvengeRanger Edit:

It's Free For All and the most amazing WTVOC has a thing about not needing a rec for even these kinds of posts.

But.

It's really polite if you would engage in quid pro quo as per the Rules.

P.S. I do appreciate your referral to your PMs rather than email. Thank you.

ADF Fit Club - Week 12

Friday January 18, 2013 at 12:19 PM

Come and share your successes!

This weeks challenge: Tips for Better Living (also a great fanfic)

I got back on the wagon this week and have exercised willpower beyond my usual ability. I made a few changes that seem to have worked.

If you could give one other person in this campfire a tip to help them acheive their goal, what would it be?

Let's talk about Flo...

Friday January 18, 2013 at 10:42 AM

No, not THAT Flo.  I'm talking about your favorite aunt.  You know the one.

The lady we all love to hate.  I ran across this little gem the other day and I almost died.  So come on in and post your favorite T-O-M jokes, gifs, skits, or TMI/Most embarrassing moments.

Listen, if you're a woman, you are a treasure trove of this kind of info just waiting to be shared!  Come on!  You know what they say about common suffering bringing people together.  So let's have a good old fashioned girl bonding campfire!

And remember, don't let yourself get over-tired, emotionally upset, or catch cold.  You can bounce along on horseback all you want, it's going to extremes that's WRONG.  More educational info here, from Walt Disney, himself.  ;)

What's YOUR most embarrassing Flo moment?  :)

Comfort Zone Annihilated

Thursday January 17, 2013 at 3:03 PM

Hi Campers! *waves

I have a current FanFic WIP  that's outside my comfort zone on occasion. While I like the premise and the plot so far, there are things I intend to write that I'm not experienced in.

Has this happened to you?

How do you handle the research?

Suggestions?

J

Here's my rec:

Just months away from inheriting a fortune and the family business, 17 year old orphan, Bella, is out of control – a wild child with a platinum card and a killer bod. Can Edward, as her legal guardian and CEO of Swan Publishing, rein her in and prevent her from ruining everything he's worked for? AH, OOC. Rated M for language, adult situations and dramatic plotlines.

I need help!!

Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 11:30 PM

Okay. The Community College I'm attending has a Distinguished Graduate Program, and I have been nominated for the Liberal Arts department. It showcases students who have excelled in their respective departments. To apply for the program, I have to fill out an application AND write a 1000 - 1500 word essay showing how the Liberal Arts department has influenced my career choice. I chose to write about how the multiple classes in the Liberal Arts major allowed my writing to become more 3dimensional.

I have the majority of my essay written, but there seems to be something missing. I need some feedback.

In your opinion? What do you think I could work on? Do you think I get my point across? The essay isn't finished, but I just want to make sure I'm heading in the right direction. (Essay will be posted in the comments)

UPDATE! The deadline has been extended. It was due on the 20th, but now, it's due on the 31st. :) I would still love any and all feedback. I'm going to post the rest of the essay. :)

I remain, Yours » by Momatu
Bella is unexpectedly given an antique desk that once belonged to Edward, and in it she finds a letter he wrote to his cousin in 1918. She responds and sets them off on a journey neither could ever have expected. Perhaps there are some things we aren't meant to understand, just accept... Will eventually contain character death - NOT Edward or Bella.

Supernatural Thrillers

Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 10:56 AM

I know, two posts back to back, sorry (for the first one, at any rate!).

Supernatural Thrillers - do you watch them?  I loved scary movies as a kid but as an adult I've been too chicken to really get into them.  But this clip has me very intrigued:

It's from the upcoming Mama, starring Jessica Chastain.  I dunno, I dunno.  I'd need anti-anxiety medication to make it all the way through.

What's the scariest supernatural thriller/scary movie you've ever seen?  What did you like best/least about it?

I haven't actually seen this and probably never will (because there isn't enough valium in this world), but the trailer alone scared the bejesus out of me (their faces, bwah!!)!

RPatz & KStew split?

TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING UP, PART 2

The Sun is reporting that Pattinson and Stewart have called it quits.

"Rob’s friends and family in London had given him a hard time about taking back the stunning actress — who is one of Hollywood’s biggest earners.

The source added: “He was getting so much pressure to ditch her. His friends told him to focus on his career and said she was wrecking his chances.”

R-Patz is planning to stay in his LA home while Kristen is moving to New York to make a fresh start. An insider said: “She feels people leave her alone there and she has a bit more peace.”

Personally, I don't believe anything the papers report about them anymore. If it's true, I won't be surprised.  Weren't there reports that Kristen joined him at Golden Globe after-parties?  Some people were speculating on Rob's supposed glum coutenance at the Globes (eh, maybe he was hungover).

Do you think it's true or just more conjecture?  Did you believe their romance was ever real to begin with?  How do you think a breakup would affect their careers -- for the worst? For the best?

Need Some Tech Support ... pretty please?

Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 10:18 PM

I really need some help with my brand new iPad, and I figured there is no better place to seek answers than the brilliant ladies at ADF.  I actually have two issues and any help would be most appreciated.

Let me preface this by saying I am a complete computer fail. You ladies helped me figure out the way to get fanfic stories onto my Kindle, by giving me step-by-step instructions on how to take completed fanfiction stories, convert them to PDFs using FLAG, and then transfer them to Calibre where I would convert them to Mobi and download them into my Kindle Fire. I actually got pretty good at this, thanks to all of your hand holding.

So now I need the same help with my iPad. Everyone I've talked to says it's sooooo easy -- just e-mail the PDF's to yourself and then sync them to your iPad. Unfortunately, I have tried and I've run into two problems: 1) I don't have Windows Office on my computer, so trying to "send" an e-mail to myself is difficult. (I do, however, have gmail so I am able to get e-mails daily, but when I try to create an e-mail by right-clicking the attachment button that says send this attachment, there is no "send" button. 2) I'm not sure if I need to convert the files to Mobi to make them more reader friendly, or will they be fine as they are?

The second problem is a little weirder. A few months ago, I remember someone seeking advice from you ladies about a problem she was having with her computer. She mentioned that for some reason she was inexplicably getting multiple radio stations when she tried to listen to some of the video clips of Twilight related stuff. If I remember correctly, you guys concurred with her that she must have inadvertenly downloaded some virus and it was reeking havoc on her computer. Well, I have the same problem!  One thing I noticed when this started happening, is that I am no longer able to pull up Google. Whenever I try to access Google, the script is all in Chinese! I have obviously downloaded something -- and God knows I open and download tons of Twilight related stuff, but does anyone know how to get rid of it? I would be grateful for any and all help -- GAH!!

Also, to offer my thanks, I would like to recommend a fic by one of the sweetest, coolest and most awesome ladies in the fandom. We met (with Mental Lady and Kat) a few months ago after finding each other on ADF. We now get together regularly to wine, dine and share movie premiere's like the Breaking Dawn II Marathon, and I'm so grateful that ADF has enabled ladies like us to get to know each other.  Her story is an Eclipse re-write of sorts following the "night of tears" and it is flat-out AMAZING. You really must go and read it!

"I'm not good with people"

Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 7:26 AM

Awww, Rob.  You can be good with me.

German interview:

Q:Are you going to Australia.
R:Yeah, in a few days.

Q:Can you tell me a little bit about it?
R:It's set 20 years in the future,in Australia. Basically,I'm an American whose brothers is in a criminal gang in Australia.Guy P's character kinda kidnaps me to try and find my brother. Other than that it's really complicated. But it's cool. It's really fun.

Q:How do you prepare for a night like this? You presented at the Oscars, you present tonight, how do you prepare for it?
R:You can't. It's impossible. I'm always so nervous. Up until I get out of the car I'm so nervous.

Q:Whats going through your head.
R:Now I'm alright.

Q:Why(he's nervous)?
R: I have no idea. It's weird I'm not very good... I'm not good with people.

Q about crazy Twi carpets, if it's a different feeling standing next to Glenn Close.
R: No, it's amazing. You feel a lot of responsibility as well."

I want to be that envelope.

So are you shy?  Do you hate these work parties where you have to make small talk with the spouse of someone you know?  Do you hate introducing yourself to new people and yet feel self-conscious if  you just stand there with your significant other speaking to no one else?

Give your junk to School

Monday January 14, 2013 at 9:10 PM

Hey, do you have some junk sitting around that you don't know what to do with?

NO! NOT THAT KIND OF JUNK!
I mean actual cool junk. Like this:

How about donating it to a public school? Never thought of that, did ya?
Thing is, public schools are always having events that need awesome doorprizes that draw folks in, or they need incentives to offer to students who need an inducement to exceed expectations.

On February 1st, the school where I work will have a "Lock-In" fundraiser with a cover charge at the door and a variety of activities going all night long.

There will be:
•Movie Marathons
•Video Game Tournaments
•Dance Competition
•Karaoke Contest
•Food and Beverage Concession
•Face Painting
•DIY Manicures
•Paper Airplane Contest

The thing is, the Tournament and Contests need PRIZES!!

That's where you come in.

I'm calling my friends who work at "cool" places ... like Fox and CBS and EMI and MTV and asking them to donate stuff and junk they have littering up their offices.

I mean, when I worked at NAPSTER and YAHOO, we were drowning in stuff - freebies from reps, teeshirts, hats, CDs, duplicates of everything.

But we had no cost effective way to offload it.

So, now that I work in a school, I was thinking: public schools are a tax write off. Anyone or any business that wanted to could donate their unwanted awesomeness and write it off, shipping included.

Then schools could use the stuff as incentives for student participation, doorprizes at events, or whatever.

Do you get it?

From my observation, school fundraisers dont make much money because the team has to BUY the shirts before they can sell them, etc.

On the other hand, if they could get something for free, they might actually raise serious money!

What do you think? Anyone interested in looking into this for a school near you? Maybe we could make it a regular thing on ADF?

OKAY SO PLEASE COME INSIDE AND BRAG ABOUT WHAT COOL THING YOU CAN DONATE TO MY SCHOOL FUNDRAISER! POST PICTURES. ONE-UP EACH OTHER, ETC.

Tell yer friends.

Any GOOD Percy Jackson fics out there? I'd appreciate it a lot. :)

Celebrating!!

Monday January 14, 2013 at 5:27 PM

So, its no big secret that planetblue is my BFF - she started out as the cool kid in the forest that always left a kind comment, answered a question, provided a rec. Somehow, we hit it off and started trading all of our favorite titles and authors and discussing our mutual love of this fandom as well as this site. She has lead me to so many great stories and last summer she let it slip that she had written a little bit here and there and I needled her and needled her and low and behold - Barefoot in Texas was born.

Today, she crosses that big milestone of hitting the complete button! I always think this is a big deal and wish that we would celebrate it more because whether it takes an author a month or three years, completing a story and sharing it with the world is a big deal. So, in that spirit - CONGRATULATIONS planetblue! I'm so proud of you!! 4eva!

Anyone else want to give a shout out to an author that's hit the big completion milestone?
