ADF Fit Club - Week 18

Saturday March 9, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Welcome Back! (Or just welcome if you want to join in!)

This Week's Challenge: Give me an inspirational song - a song that makes you want to run or, in my case, walk purposefully. The song that makes you turn away from the cake and towards the carrot!

The reason for this is that I love to dance and have a 'dance dance' playlist on my ipod - purely for dancing around the kitchen when I'm cooking.

Some songs make me feel like I could acheive anything, including reaching my target! And the ultimate song is this:

Perhaps this is not allowed. I'm not sure. I searched the tags. I kinda searched topics.

Question inside.

But here's a nice picture I ran across! Strangely, I was looking for Valdimir and Stefan pictures and there this was!

Paul looks pretty darn nice.

An in-the-closet writer comes out

Saturday March 9, 2013 at 7:49 AM

I'm not referring to her sexuality.

I mean a Harvard graduate, Oxford researcher was writing SWEET VALLEY HIGH.

She has admitted it here, years later, in this NPR article.

And also said this: "I've been getting these wonderful letters from readers, who are women now — who are lawyers, who are doctors, who grew up reading these books, sort of, under the covers with their flashlights. And their parents wanted them to be reading Jane Eyre or something more serious.

"I think many of us have a kind of guilty pleasure about some of this lighter cultural material, and I think there's room for both."

Go Twilight, eh?

I always thought that if I ever wrote something publishable, I'd do it under a pseudonym, just because... I don't know why.  It's like my stuff would never be quite good enough for me to put my real name on it.

The Brontes, George Eliot (I don't even know her real name), and even JK Rowling wanted to be mistaken for male writers, and chose their author names accordingly.

1.  Would you publish under your own name, regardless of the genre or the cultural regard for your type of work?  YA?  Erotic fiction?

2.  Would you write for a series anonymously, like the writers of Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley High?

JR Ward freaked me out

Friday March 8, 2013 at 6:46 PM

CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS PLEASE?!

I got this off of JR Ward's Facebook page, posted today....

“Zsadist! Zsaaaaaaaaaaaaadist!”
The scream carried all the way across the glowing blue lawn as, up
at the terrace, a lone figure shot out into the snow at a dead run.
Lots of people shouted back at Bella, but he doubted she heard a
thing.
“Zsaaaaaaaaaadist!”
As she skidded into range, Blay immediately reached for her- (...) (A)nd, oh, God, he was never going to forget the expression on her face— it was more horrific than any war atrocity he’d ever seen, as if she were being flayed alive, sure as her arms and legs were strapped down and pieces of her very flesh were being peeled from her body...
-Lover at Last, pg 152 (edited a little bit)

Soooooo, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Can I get your ideas, and someone calm me down because if they mess with my Z and Bella I'm going to have a SERIOUS problem....

A SECOND rec from me omg what is happening

Friday March 8, 2013 at 7:14 AM

And it's AU! Before the dawn. Read it all in one sitting.

Author: BookwormBaby2580 (apparently this is the first time she's writing a canon pairing)
After her mother's wedding in Mexico, Bella encounters a vampire with less altruistic motives than the those held by the vampires she might have met in Forks under drastically different circumstances. One bad decision, she discovers, can change her entire life. AU E/B
Rated: Fiction M - English - Horror/Romance - Bella & Edward - Chapters: 12 - Words: 72,316 - Reviews: 437 - Favs: 297 - Follows: 459 - Updated: 02-19-13 - Published: 03-12-12

Would have been much better if Bella hadn't been so young, as well as if Edward hadn't acted as if he is, imo. I'm usually looking for fics in which Bella is older than in canon, not younger. Esp. with sth like that happening to her. Also, I do miss angsty Edward. Still, it's the best new fic out there for me

Oh, the first chapters are VERY, EXTREMELY difficult to read. Can't remember ever feeling such horror, such disgust while reading a Twific. But don't give up.

ETA: I just remembered what other story this reminds me of. Once upon a time Angstgoddess had written an AU, which she never posted, but passed around to several people in the fandom. It was amazing (yk, AG and all), but I can't find it anymore. She had Bella weak up as a vampire wanting to eat people (can't remember if she actually did), and then Jasper found her and took her back with them. Such a pity she never finished it :(

WTF FF!

Okay, so I found that CF, it's a very old one, it was started by chinagirl and I thought it was really awesome, why not to do it again?

Here we go ..

What is the weirdest thing you've read in any fandom you've participated in?

Quote a line, describe a scene, name a pairing. But please, take it all out of context. No author or fic names, no links. Even the best of us make typos that end up making our readers giggle snort or wince

.

A discovery of witches

Thursday March 7, 2013 at 11:53 AM

So, I just finished skimming reading it. Yes, the writing is, of course, kinda better than SM's. But, honestly, who cares? I was hoping I'd find another book I just couldn't put down, but no. There was a very promising moment, one that could have brought delicious 'His love was not real" angst, but it died out like two pages later. Maybe those into action/fantasy/suspense whatever liked the plot, but it's internal angst I'm a sucker for.

To make it interactive: What is it with all the Edward Cullen similarities? Who wrote the gorgeous, angsty, vegetarian, hopelessly in love with someone he shouldn't be (because he's too dangerous)  vampire first? The similarities are too many to be ignored. Also, what did SM know that the other authors don't? Did she really put cockaine in the Twilight books?

Stompin' Tom Connors dies at 77

Canadian country-folk legend Stompin' Tom Connors, whose toe-tapping musical spirit and fierce patriotism established him as one of Canada's strongest cultural icons, has died. He was 77.

Connors passed away Wednesday from what a spokesman described as "natural causes."

Brian Edwards said the musician, rarely seen without his signature black cowboy hat and stomping cowboy boots, knew his health was declining and had penned a message for his fans a few days before his death.

In the message posted on his website, Connors says Canada kept him "inspired with it's beauty, character, and spirit, driving me to keep marching on and devoted to sing about its people and places that make Canada the greatest country in the world."

Connors is survived by his wife Lena, two sons, two daughters and several grandchildren.
Dubbed Stompin' Tom for his propensity to pound the floor with his left foot during performances, Connors garnered a devoted following through straight-ahead country-folk tunes that drew inspiration from his extensive travels and focused on the everyman.

omg a REC!! (haven't done this in ages)

Wednesday March 6, 2013 at 2:55 PM

So, I was stalking my favorite author's ff.net site and she's never even posted there searching for recs, and ended up finding a WIP I just had to read in one sitting. This hasn't happened for so long; can't even remember when the last time was. And now I'm patiently waiting for an update, and knowing i'm not over this obsession makes me happy :)  Even if I'm hoping for major angst.

The Gap: Their first encounter is brief, minute, insignificant, forgettable. At least it should be. Edward and Bella live very different lives, but a chance encounter forces them to reexamine everything they thought they wanted.
Twilight - Rated: M - English - Drama/Romance - Chapters: 9 - Words: 29,808 - Reviews: 693 - Updated: 2-27-13 - Published: 10-9-12 - Bella & Edward

Has anyone read any of her other stories? I'm thinking of giving Too little, too late a try. She's been posting stories for the past couple of years, but she may have been in the fandom longer than that, as she has AG's stories listed in her favorites lists so I'm a stalker; sue me

Possible Gapward FYT

ETA: Rangers, please feel free to delete if this should not be in its own cf. The fic does seem to be becoming very popular though
