I really Wish. . .

Friday March 15, 2013 at 5:26 AM

I really wish How to Paint a House would update.  It's one of my favorite stories!  I truly think that the author intends to finish it but there has not been an update since September.  She left an note on her profile page in January that said she was working on the last couple of chapters.

What stories would you like to see update?

Shades of Grey- Inner Goddess

Friday March 15, 2013 at 1:23 AM

This travesty of publishing will NEVER go away. SQuiD is milking this for all it's worth. A new book, Shades of Grey: Inner Goddess will be released May 1st.

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-03-12/fifty-shades-of-greys-e-dot-l-dot-james-next-book-is-a-writers-journal

James’s Shades of Grey: Inner Goddess, which will come out on May 1, is being billed as a “writer’s journal.” She reportedly wrote the forward, shared some excerpts from her Fifty Shades series, and provided a music playlist that she listened to while writing. (Please tell me there’s some Barry White.) The book will also have blank pages on which women can brainstorm ideas for their own books.

“Her personal story as a writer is inspirational to many women, and journaling has been an important part of her creative process from the start,” Vintage publisher Anne Messitte said in a statement when the deal was announced on Monday. For the subtlety-challenged, it’s a pitch that suggests that a 1,500-page best-selling series could happen to anyone with a diary.

I can think of some titles for the chapters on How to Publish a Hit Novel. Something along the lines of "Target an established fan-base" comes to mind. And after this drivel comes out, there is no way she won't do her own Midnight Sun version of 50 Shades. How does Fifty Shades of Midnight sound??

What will it take for this horrible book to just go away?

Hey Forest, have I got some fun for you. Because who doesn't like surveys, and a chance to flog our favourite deceased equine?

That's right! A chance to tell the world all your feels about P2P Fanfiction!

I'm writing a paper for an information policy class about the intersection of copyright and published fanfiction, and I'd like to include a discussion of how books life FSOG affect the community's social policy, i.e. the free exchange of ideas and writing for the love of the work.

How can you have your say? Just PM me your email address, and I'll send you a link to fill out a short survey on your fanfiction and P2P experience. Feel free to share the link with your fanfiction friends!

DISCLAIMER: You will in NO WAY be personally identified in this paper. No names, no identifying characteristics, no nothin'. You'll be asked for some demographic info like gender and age range, but this is only to get an idea of who's in the FF community, and how it compares to the demographics of book buyers.

To make this interactive -- how has fanfiction invaded YOUR everyday life?

ETA: Wow! The response to this survey has been overwhelming. HUGE thanks to all who participated and shared. You guise are the best!

UNIQUE

Thursday March 14, 2013 at 8:40 AM

I'm in the mood to read something Unique. Come inside and share something different. I can be North and South, Vampire Darcy, Doctor Who, Something new, or old, but make it

UNIQUE

Not Allowed: Simple high school drama, teacher and student romance, emotionally damaged Bella and/or Edward who can't seem to have an open and honest conversation. Older gentleman who pays Bella to do School/Work/simply live. Millionaire Guy who has everything he wants but needs to marry in order to acquire inheritance. Draco's faults are suddenly gone and Hermione is forced to marry him. Sookie falls for Eric hard and fast. Eric is not a jerk in the beginning and Bill never does anything right.

My Recs:

The Cannabean Betrothal: No they are not always high, and No they are not Amish.

La canzone della Bella Cigna: Opera and Vampires. Enough said.

Birds of a Feather: Best Sookie fanfiction I've ever read. And I've read a lot!

Disclaimer: I've read many stories  with plots in the "Not Allowed" list. I've enjoyed them and even promoted them. This is not a diss.

The Rover

Wednesday March 13, 2013 at 7:05 AM

1st official pic! SO excited for this movie...

http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2013/03/11/FL-The-Rover_510x317.jpg

Australia was founded as a repository for crooks and criminals — a wretched hive of scum and villainy, like the British Empire’s own Mos Eisley. Of course, that was a long time ago and the Australian national demeanor has since shifted from “kill or be killed” to “live and let live,” but David Michôd’s gritty 2010 drama Animal Kingdom chronicled some of the country’s more modern criminal descendents. In his upcoming sophomore effort, The Rover, the director takes things even further.

Robert Pattinson plays a denizen of the Outback in the near future, after a worldwide financial collapse has sent many like him running to the still viable mines of the Australian desert. “It’s like a new gold rush,” says Michôd. “Where people from all corners of the world have come out to the desert to scrape out an existence. Petty criminals and miscreants and hustlers.” Guy Pearce, who had an uncharacteristically reserved role in Animal Kingdom, gets to sink his teeth into a nicely nasty part opposite Pattinson. “The basic story is really quite elemental,” says Michôd. “You’ve got a really dark, dangerous, murderous person in Guy’s character, and in Rob’s character you have a quite troubled and damaged, but beautiful and naïve, soul.”

Of course, just by its setting and basic plot, The Rover is poised to draw comparisons to one of the antipodean country’s most memorable cinematic contributions. “You put cars in the desert in Australia and people are going to think of Mad Max,” says Michôd. “And with all due respect to that film — and I stress that — I think The Rover is going to be way more chillingly authentic and menacing.”

Who wanna take a bet that<<His character will die in the end?>> lol

"The suit says that the settlement was reached upon "payment of a confidential sum by Smash Pictures to Plaintiffs and upon entry by the Court of a Stipulated Judgment for Permanent Injunction with respect to Plaintiffs' claims for copyright and trademark infringement.""

Stephenie reveals why she hasn't finished Midnight Sun and it seems likely she will not finish it.  Something about movie/manuscript bleedover.

Do you know of any fics that picked up where Stephenie left off with Midnight Sun?

Old and new Rob pics

Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 5:56 AM

Rob down under, dirty and skinny, teeth hidden thank the Lord:

Pub pics with his cousin are making the rounds.  Too personal?  Dunno.  They are from this night:

ARMS, hubba hubba.

To make this interactive:

Do you have a pub-like place where 'everybody knows your name'?

Did you know pubs in the UK are not bars at all but places where old people and families can go too?

What's the best pub outside of the UK?

PS there is a new picture of KStew around too, but I can't be bothered to load it up.  Go ahead somebody, if you want.
