So, a long time ago, I was thinking about taking the basic idea of my fanfic story and turning it into a original fiction.

BUT, now I am not. The campfire where I brought this up last year changed my mind. Most people were supportive, don't get me wrong. But there were a couple people who thought I shouldn't. And that's okay.

I'm curious about this though: Do you think you can change someone's mind about pulling a fic or just taking the basic idea of it? Do you think EL James would have changed her mind had she known what an uproar it would cause in fandom? Or any other author who pulled or whatever? Do you think some people expect you to treat them differently depending on which fic they wrote - or that you would treat them differently depending on what they wrote?

What was your best bargain find in books? Find an amazing boxed set at a discount? Hit a garage sale and strike gold? Did you have a spinster aunt who unknowingly had a priceless first edition she was using to balance a wonky table?

Do tell.

I don't ship them.  But they're pretty darned cute, nonetheless.

Blind Items Revealed - Kindness
 

This foreign born A list mostly movie actor was in a big franchise. Since then he has been hanging on to his A list status by a thread. The kids at his former school love the actor though because he spent $500K of his own money to pay for the rebuilding of the school's theatre which had to be demolished. He even has agreed to act in the first play the school puts on when the building is finished sometime later this year.

Along with all the discussion we have about feminism and the recent movements of #YesAllWomen and such, we've stumbled upon...yes, Mental Illness.

You should all know by now that I am passionate about this subject and why. I think we should have a discussion about it. Just...an open, nice discussion.

Why is it that in cases such as this shooting, Mental Illness is blamed? And why is it that the mentally ill have such a bad rep with society? Because it isn't just women being blamed here, it's people with mental illnesses/disorders. Is it TV? Movies? Do people that have these illnesses scare you and why do they if they do?  

Have you experienced people with mental illness in a scary way? Etc etc etc.

This campfire isn't about hate, it's just about trying to understand.

Also, What about The Hulk? He doesn't seem to get much love so I wanna talk about him too. Were the movies okay to you? Did they suck? I like the guy who plays him in the Avengers movie.

Hi Campers,

A while back there was a discussion about one of Shaliene Woodley's interviews in which she proclaimed that she wasn't a feminist because she likes men.  I'm paraphrasing and I'm too lazy to look up the actual interview because it will probably piss me off.

Anyway, how has feminism and the battle for equal rights affected you?  Are there accomplishments that you are proud of?  What more needs to be done in your own life/workplace/neck of the woods?

I believe it was one of our fellow campers who made the point that we are all 'feminists' who believe in equal rights, equal treatment between genders, equal job pay etc. So I am not a feminist (except I am).
