Hiya Peeps!

Has anyone here ever read the Shiver series by Maggie Stiefvater?

It's actually a little bit like Twilight, it reminds me of the wolf pack anyway.

Just in case I need a rec here:

Fic Diving 5-27-14

Diving Deep for Fan Fic Treasures

Each week I will brave the treacherous waters of Fan Fiction for buried treasure. Below are the gems I've found this week!

Hope everyone in the States enjoyed the Memorial Day Holiday yesterday.  It was a beautiful day to honor our loved ones lost in the name of protecting our country.

Bring on Summer!

Please send the story writers a note to let them know you saw them rec'd here in the Fic Dive!

Open Road by Malin Halibell
What's a group of eight friends to do when summer gets boring? Take a three week long road trip in a hippie van, that's what. The gang embarks on their summer adventure, full of motel rooms, cheap diners, junk food, the open road, music blasting, and heated touches.

Our gang road trippin'.  B & E are crushing on each other but are both hesitant to make a move. Sweet and Fluffy.

Your Cliché, My Exception by Aussiegirl101
Edward's story; he's growing up and working it out. When he finally meets Bella he knows that she's his exception. Wouldn't you know that life decided to turn them into the oldest cliché? Everyone seems to think they can't last the distance. Everyone except Edward.

E & B see each other in passing growing up.  He's always captivated by her and admires her from afar.  He moves on with his life and relationships until they meet up again.  This does not start out as ExB.

FLASH BACK FIC DIVE:

ETA:  Feel free to add in any info on the Flash Backs in the comments.  I read most of these forever ago, and know that I really liked them, but can't remember all of the intracacies of the plots.  :)

Up to Speed by ericastwilight
Race car driver Edward Cullen has wrecked his car again. In desperate need of sponsors his team take on a brilliant engineer, Bella Swan. Besides trying to win the Sprint Cup, Edward finds himself racing for Bella's heart.

I like Edward as a race car driver.

Volition by Rochelle Allison

It's Belfast, N. Ireland and the year is 1972. Bella's worried about her brother and his best friend, Edward, and their dangerous involvement in the Irish Republican Army. Is it really wise to fall in love with a rebel? Rated M

Love the history in this one as well as our moody Rebel-ward.

Almost Doesn't Count by Mrs.Robward

Bella is a family attorney and Edward seeks her help. Friendship abounds, maybe more? AH, Canon Couples

E wants to adopt a little sweetheart he became attached to while Doctorin' over in Russia. Bella helps him sort through the red tape.

Thanks as always for your feedback and support.  It all means so much to me.  <3

Sneak Peek - Curtains Parting

Monday May 26, 2014 at 1:39 AM

Are you still getting ready backstage, beautiful?

Then just give us a little preview
before the main attraction.

The house lights may be low but our interest is high. Tempt us with your teasers.
Lure us with your lyrical prose. Seduce us with a song and dance.
Ignite us with your imagination.

Don't forget to leave us your link so we can come tell you how great you were
after the show
.

* Many sincere thanks to mo kagen, who offered much gracious transitional encouragement while leaving some pretty big shoes to fill for posting Sneak Peek Mondays. No, really - the shoes she left are huge.
Peep toes that look like 14 or 15Ws. But you know what they say about feet size. So you go and get it, mo.

Thank you, Cappie, for asking me to the prom in the first place. Told you I'd put out.

And relieved thanks to dear lass ValWaltzing, who generously supplied me with far more than one
striking and creative image that did not, in fact, involve a kilt.

You all made my first time a lot easier. You are the perfect Edwards.

Local Holidays

Friday May 23, 2014 at 10:09 AM

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend in the U.S. and Victoria Day weekend in Canada, which means most of North America has a holiday.  Everyone has heard of those holidays but here in my city of Warwick, Rhode Island, Memorial Day weekend is when we also celebrate Gaspee Days.

Gaspee Days is a big deal in RI and a HUGE deal in Warwick.   There's things like this happening all weekend"

Arts and Crafts Festival, Block Party, Fireworks, Parade, 5k race, historical reenactment, etc...

2 guesses who this one is for:

all because of this event: The Burning of the HMS Gaspee in 1772 .

What that cute little link doesn't tell you in its tale of how the Colonists burned the ship is that they actually shot the Captain of the ship.  That's right, in 1772, they shot* a member of the Royal Navy and they got away with it.  It's called the "First Blow for Freedom" and is the first bloodshed of the American Revolution.  That would seem to be a really big deal yet I can pretty much guarantee 99% never heard of it before today.  You all know about that tea that got dumped overboard in Boston though.   This is one of those things that stumps the locals.

*edit: I learned this weekend he wasn't killed when they shot him.

So,  what local holidays/ celebrations do you have where you live that should be considered  as important- historically or otherwise-  yet somehow no one outside your area has ever heard of them?  If nothing like that then  what quirky or unusual festivals do you have?
