ENTITLEMENT

Friday August 27, 2010 at 5:11 AM

No, this is not a campfire about anything having to actually do with entitlement.

It has to do with titles, which is kind of my point.

Really.

With the utmost respect to all authors in the fandom and (who knows?) out there in the real world...

Titles.  To which fics/books/stories would you like to give a new title?

Could EDWARD WALLBANGER be renamed to GIVING GOOD WOO? (I loved that line from the last chapter, sorry!)

What about BREAKING DAWN?  Could it be titled FALSE DAWN instead?

Anyone?  (Bueller?)

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Friday August 27, 2010 at 12:04 AM

I like to read fanfic off of other's recc's.  I just read banananapancakes7's "Thirty Days" because someone was looking for it in one of thoseannoyinglyfamous "Lost and Found" Campfires and I am SO glad I did!  I was also glad it was only four chapters because I couldn't put it down.

I know, I know, we hate "rec" fires that single only a certain few out...and already have official "Rec Fires" too, but I guess I  really enjoyed this and wanted to let the Newbies know that its "Smut-Without-Smut"...and you'll need to go read the stuff this author is putting out!  So I am claiming FFFA and putting this up!

Now for the interactive part,

WHAT FIC DID YOU READ OFF A REC AND LOVE

and

well, some of us like to talk about the negative or converse side of that question, and this is a free ADF and User-Generated, sooooo talk about what you will!

Storylines You're Done With!

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 10:26 PM

I'm a Twilight fan fiction junkie. I honestly can't get enough of them and I will completely admit that I am addicted. Having read 100's of them over the last few years, you of course run across a lot of them that have the same plots and that's okay because most of the time they all have different spins on them. But there is one storyline that I can not stand to read any longer. The fics where Edward knocks Bella up, he has to leave for whatever reason and Bella never tells him about the baby. I can not stand this Bella. Just the thought of someone doing that makes me rage. It's one of the most selfish things anyone can ever do. You have absolutely no right to do something like this. Making that kind of decision for someone. Whenever I come across these stories I either don't read or I skim them, because I hate this Bella and have zero sympathy for her. All I want is for Edward to never get back together with her and to sue her for full legal custody of his child LMAO.

So please explain to me the appeal of these types of stories. BTW, yes, I am reading "Secrets, Lies, & Family Ties," it's one of the few that I actually really enjoy.

And while you're at it, what are some storylines that you NEVER want to see in a fan fic again?

mmm mmm good

Recommend my next book!

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 10:24 PM

I'm on the hunt for some new books. I tend to like a series of books more then single books but either is fine. And I read more YA then "big girl books" but either is fine there too. Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight (naturally), Percy Jackson, Sookie Stackhouse and The Gargoyle are the books I either read recently or just reread all the times cause I love 'em. Any recommendation would be awesome. Thanks!

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 9:27 PM

If I'm not mistaken, it's officially been FFFA for about half an hour.

SO. HERE I GO!

JERSEY SHORE. THAT'S WHAT'S UP.

So, who likes it? Who thinks it's ridiculous? Who wants to be a guido/guidette? Who WANTS a guido/guidette?

PUMPYOFISTS.

I've dissed JS since it came out. And then, last night, out of boredom, I started watching the show from the beginning. And then I listened to Pauly's song.

Let's just say they've grown on me. Especially little Snooki. Poor girl got hit in the face by a *badword* guy!

LET'S SHARE THE ITALIAN LOVEEEE.

It's TMI Time!

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 8:32 PM

We need to do this every now and then, don't we?

So here's the deal...

anything gross or disturbing you need to get off yer chest...

THIS IS YOUR CAMPFIRE

Have an embarrassing question?

ASK HERE...someone just might have the perfect answer!

NOTHING IS TOO PERSONAL, NOTHING IS OFF LIMITS.

THERE'S NO JUDGEMENT IN A GROWNASS CAMPFIRE!

and if you have no stomach for these sorts of things...this campfire isn't for you!

this is an 18 and over campfire---sry kids, and Sharif!

Here's my question:

Is there a situation where you've had sex, where normally it would be completely off-limits? (you know what i'm talking about--yeah i'm going there)

What's a situation where sex is an absolute NO-GO for you?

you've got me for an hour, folks...then hubs is dragging me to bed ;)

Looking For A Fic

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 8:08 PM

This is my first post and my first campfire, I'm a little nervous hope I'm doing it right. If I'm not feel free to delete my post. I'm have been looking for a fic for the past couple of days and I haven't found it so I thought I would see if any of you nice ladies could help me out.

Its a human fic Edward and Emmett are brothers.Edward and Bella are dating, Emmett makes a bet with Edward that he can't go a month without sex. Edward takes the bet, bella tries to get him to cave. The last chapter I remember reading last was they were all at the cullens for a party and Edward and Bella get in a big fight about the bet and then Edward asks her to marry him. Would really like to find it, if anyone could help me out that would be great!

I'm starting a fic (a real multi chaptered fic!), and I was just wondering if I could get something like a fic buddy here?

Not necessarily a beta, but just someone to bounce ideas on/off of. Anyone willing?

Let's talk about hate in fics

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 6:25 PM

Something has been bothering me - hate showing up in fics.  I am not talking about hating Jasper X Bella or hating Jacob X Nessie stories. No, I am talking about when an author chooses to use offensive words or phrases that hold no importance to the plot of the story.

It even bothers me more when an author who does this gets rave reviews for her other stories. Should we be applauding someone who doesn't care about the power of her words? This particular author used the phrase, "As tight as a Jew with a $100 bill," in one of her stories. It wasn't relevant to the plot and when I emailed about her use of such derogatory language, she laughed in my face.

It isn't just me. I mentioned this author in another campfire and another camper said that in yet another one of her stories she had read, this author used the term "the browns" to refer to African Americans.

So, what do you think? Would you read or continue reading a story by an author who uses such terminology in her writing? What would an author have to do to make you boycott her stories?

Even Rob is thinking about this...

Thinking Time - Part Deux

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 4:07 PM

remember the other day when I asked about your reading list? I promised a final read out...here it is....

Portion of faves/alerts AH: 71.4%

Portion of faves/alerts AU/Canon (Vamp):28.6%

Portion of faves/alerts M rated: 92.4%

Portion of faves/alerts T rated (or lower): 7.6%

I for one was surprised at just how large the skew was towards AH...if I dropped out a few of the big vamp readers - the AH % went up to 75%

Which leads me to my next set of questions....

1. With all the stories out there...what genres or concepts have you not found that you would LOVE to see?  I for one am on a huge mystery/suspense kick these days (along with a good dose of Em).

2. I've found that writing with someone (in my case theheartoflife and profmom) totally changes the way I tell a story. Is there a concept you'd like to see, and who would you want to take it on/why?

3. What is the one thing you are tired off (not cliches...let's not go there). We are talking story lines (e.g. Edward never came back).  What has been done a thousand times, and deserves a long healthy life out in the pasture....

Let's hear it gang....I know you are FULL of opinions :)

Peek a boo!

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 3:08 PM

I know many of you don't know me personally, so you wouldn't know that it takes a lot to get me down.  I usually live my life as a happy pixie and shrug off the bad.  Life has smacked me in the face with reality and I can't laugh it off for once.  I have been like this all day:

Why you may ask?  Work stress has finally cracked me.  I'm also dealing with the fact that my papa's (in my family we use papa as grandfather) cancer came back and its not looking good at all.  I haven't dealt with a death since 1994 which was my other papa.  I've cried about 5 times today because of everything breaking me for once.

I know I don't know you lovely woman personally but your like my second family.  I'd like a pick me up I don't care what it is.  GIF~Song~Video~Story...whatever will do.

This has been approved by Capricorn75 (Thanks so much for this, this means a lot.)

Let's play a game...or something

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 1:43 PM

Okay, so I think it was a month ago that one of our awesome campers started a campfire where we all shared our voices, and left little messages to each other. It was lots of fun. I want to hear you guys again, but I decided to make things a little different this time.

SO...

I'm going to read a passage from my favorite fic, and you guys can guess the fic. And then you guys can read your favorite quotes, paragraphs, whatever, and we can discuss the stories, tell each other how awesome we sound, sing, chat, anything you want. Let's just get to know each other a little better. If you're shy and don't want to record anything, that's cool, just copy/paste the quote and we can still guess the story!

All you have to do is go on www.vocaroo.com and hit record or whatever the button is. IT'S REALLY EASY. Then share the recording with us in the comments.

Completed story errors

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 1:16 PM

Hey authors!!!  When I come across an error in your completed story, do you want me to PM you about it? Or are you done with it and no longer care enough to fix it?

I'm not talking about missed commas or 'I' instead of 'me' gramatical errors -  but missing words, or phrases left in when the sentence was rewritten, or the word you intended to use isn't the word that ended up there (ie. intending inflection but ending up with infection).

Secret Password

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 12:19 PM

Whenever I meet other Twilight fans, I get all excited and it makes me feel like I'm part of this exclusive club.  There's this connection Twilight fans have that supersedes nationality, gender, politics, etc.

Thinking of this made me realize that with true Twilight fans you can say one or two words and they will immediately know what you're talking about and laugh or be all OMG!  I LOVE that.

So my question to you is - what's your Twilight secret password?

Mine is:

tan leather jacket

or

Looking for my mojo...

Thursday August 26, 2010 at 10:43 AM

So... I write this little fic.  And I love the idea of the story.  It's my attempt at creating a realistic situation, a REAL story.  It's all-human, about adultery.  Some of you may read it or skim it or whatever.  I like the idea of creating a story where everything isn't cut and dry, nothing is black and white.  It's the kind of story that (i hope) will make you think and possibly challenge what you think you may believe about marriage or infidelity.  (i'm rambling now...)

Anyway... I'm ridiculously slow at updating.  I agonize over every line, every word, it's a slow process for me.  Add to that... real life has been chaotic lately...kids....work, etc... so I haven't been spending as much time with my story as I did when I first started writing it.  And somewhere along the way.... I've felt my mojo slip away.

Last night I was determined to write and I just wanted to get back into the mind of my story so I started to re-read it from the beginning and...

OMG!

OMG!!!  It's sooo bad!  Like... I cringed at what I wrote.  And I know it's all part of the evolution of growing as a writer.  (please don't tell me OMG ITS GREAT!---i'm not looking for an ego stroke here, seriously.... just a discussion)  But gahh.... do you ever just DIE at some of the stuff you've written?

So here's my question...

What do you do when you have trouble getting back into the spirit of a story?

Apart from the usual-- "write something new", "step away for a bit" etc..etc...

Do you re-read what you've written?  If so... what if you HATE what you wrote?

Also.... as a READER...

When you're reading a story that's been written over the course of several months...do you pick up on writing style changes?

For my story, I have to be in a certain frame of mind in order to connect with my characters.  Maybe my problem is that I've been too damn happy lately to write such an emo mess!

But do you ever just change yer writing style mid-way through?

What do you do, Campers....what should I do?  My characters are in a state of limbo here, and I need to help them!

For the 27 of you out there who read my story...don't worry, I'm gonna finish it... I promise!
