So... I write this little fic. And I love the idea of the story. It's my attempt at creating a realistic situation, a REAL story. It's all-human, about adultery. Some of you may read it or skim it or whatever. I like the idea of creating a story where everything isn't cut and dry, nothing is black and white. It's the kind of story that (i hope) will make you think and possibly challenge what you think you may believe about marriage or infidelity. (i'm rambling now...)
Anyway... I'm ridiculously slow at updating. I agonize over every line, every word, it's a slow process for me. Add to that... real life has been chaotic lately...kids....work, etc... so I haven't been spending as much time with my story as I did when I first started writing it. And somewhere along the way.... I've felt my mojo slip away.
Last night I was determined to write and I just wanted to get back into the mind of my story so I started to re-read it from the beginning and...
OMG!
OMG!!! It's sooo bad! Like... I cringed at what I wrote. And I know it's all part of the evolution of growing as a writer. (please don't tell me OMG ITS GREAT!---i'm not looking for an ego stroke here, seriously.... just a discussion) But gahh.... do you ever just DIE at some of the stuff you've written?
So here's my question...
What do you do when you have trouble getting back into the spirit of a story?
Apart from the usual-- "write something new", "step away for a bit" etc..etc...
Do you re-read what you've written? If so... what if you HATE what you wrote?
Also.... as a READER...
When you're reading a story that's been written over the course of several months...do you pick up on writing style changes?
For my story, I have to be in a certain frame of mind in order to connect with my characters. Maybe my problem is that I've been too damn happy lately to write such an emo mess!
But do you ever just change yer writing style mid-way through?
What do you do, Campers....what should I do? My characters are in a state of limbo here, and I need to help them!
For the 27 of you out there who read my story...don't worry, I'm gonna finish it... I promise!
