Tear Jerkers

Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 3:56 PM

Have you ever read a fic that just made you cry? Or depressed the heck out of you?

I remember a little while ago I read House Of Cards by therunaway1 and it was so angsty it literally not only made me cry but got me depressed. I had to stop reading it because I was getting so into the characters and I felt so emotionally attached and just wanted to jump in the fic and help them out. At first I was going to stop reading it but I am not one to give up. I carried on. It was worth it in the end, but it really affected me.

Has a fic ever affected you like this? Either got you sad, angry or maybe very happy? If so, what are they and were they worth it in the end?

(Oh and a side note, sorry if its effect and not affect…Im a history major in school, not English lol)

Fringe!

Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 3:55 PM

I've finally caught up with Fringe and really want to talk about what has happened in the past few episodes. However, I don't want to ruin it for anyone watching that might have missed something, so topics will be inside!

(also, I'm noticing that there are no tags for Fringe. Would it be possible to add one? Thanks!)

Jacob Black is a walking penis

Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 1:22 PM

"Jacob Black is a walking penis." If you don't happen to recognize this quote it's from Hydraulic Level 5 by Godolier, spoken by her Leah character. Now, I realize most of you have probably already read this years ago but I just picked it up yesterday. So glad I did. I have literally laughed out loud so many times and I am just now halfway through. I just wanted to express my love for this fic. It is so funny without being a comedy if that makes sense. I am a little sad that I am so behind the times and now there is no one really to discuss the fic with. Which is way I usually read WIPs but as I mentioned yesterday in the Completed cf, I am nursing a newborn and reading bunches so catching on completed fics that were "before my time," as they say.

So to make this interactive, do you read older completed fics or stick to more current stuff? (I am almost getting nostalgic at her an's even though I wasn't apart of the fandom at the time. Odd of me, probably.) Do you review way old fics? I haven't reviewed yet because I wonder if she'll even see it? Maybe just the final chapter.... Idk.

Any older completed fics you recommend I pick up? Obvs I am rec'ing HL5 but another older fic I enjoyed (but don't think I reviewed) was:

Elemental by TallulahBelle: AU/AH: When the Swans return to their birthplace, Bella learns she is no ordinary teenager, and Forks is no ordinary town. what? she reps balenciaga, she's got an image to protect, okay?

okay, i highly doubt this is true, but it's funny either way.

also, camera equipment as a birthday gift.

because kristen stewart longs to make a movie.

(i doubt it'll be a sex tape, dont go getting excited)

what type of movie would kristen stewart make, do ya reckon?

would you see it?

would you put robert pattinson on a diet?

what, other than paddle boarding, would you like to see him do for exercise?

spin class?

water aerobics?

bare backing? (horseback riding, weirdos)

jump roping?

mma fighting?

Driven To Desire Anon UST Challenge

Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 9:52 AM

Driven to Desire – A Twilight Anonymous UST Challenge

UST or Unresolved Sexual tension – a social phenomenon that occurs when two people interact and one or both feel sexual desire, but the consummation is postponed or never happens.

So many obstacles can stand in the way of two people coming together (figuratively and literally) – maybe they are co-workers, best friends, from rival families, even teacher and student! – That’s what the judges want to read.

We challenge you to make us squirm, beg for relief, toss our computers out the window in frustration – build up the tension till we can’t take any more.

Make us wet...

As with the Tales From The Void Contest, we offered some awesome prizes, and Driven to Desire will not be an exception. We will soon be announcing some SEXY products  that will be awarded as well as original story banners and awards banners by SoapyMayhem, as well as features on various blog sites!

Entries will be accepted beginning April 13th through June 8th

Dusty Update

Dusty update!

Come back and discuss once you've read!

XOXO

Bells. Just Bells.

The cooks are on time! :)

Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 9:07 AM

Come tell us what you're up to!

Let's discuss plots, characters, anything related to your fic.

What we’re cookin’...

  • Plot Bunnies! Ever have a plot bunny that needed some spice? Who said anything about too many cooks? The more the merrier, here! Bring your undercooked plots or ideas, and help others hash out their stories, too.
  • Your Characters! Feel like your characters are just skin and bones? Come chat with your friends and see if they can help you create the perfect recipe for meaty greatness.
  • Basically anything related to your fic that you need help with!

Allergies...

  • We’re allergic to negativity! Constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome, but please try to stay positive and productive!
  • And pilfering, too! There will be plenty of story ideas being discussed, so please stay respectful to your fellow authors by not using another's idea as your own - unless given explicit permission by the author first and then giving due credit, of course. No eating off someone else’s plate unless they say you can!

Food Bank...

  • Donations! Have some untouched plot ingredients that have been sitting in your cabinet for far too long? Come drop them off at our Food Bank and help another hungry author!
  • Pick up! Need some ingredients for your writing? See what ideas have been left for a good home.

You’ve given us an excuse to use the kitchen for the first time.

So, come on in and share your ideas! Maybe someone will have that perfect plot point that pushes your story from good to great, and hopefully you’ll be able to do the same for a fellow author!

Reading Roll Call!

Tell us everything you are reading RIGHT NOW!

Books and Fanfiction alike

It can be supernatural or not, it can be a copy/paste of your reading list, it can be a flyer for the local supermarket. We don't care.

Please link if you are reading fanfiction or give us a nice summary if you are reading a book. We also LOVE reviews, so tell us what you think of what you are reading!

The last few weeks I have limited the campers to specific types of fics so now is the time to just let loose and give us your reading list.

Warning: Viewing requires Poise Pads/Tissues

Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 8:29 AM

Over the past few years there have been many dramatic readings presented on youtube of our beloved twific - some well-loved stories and others, that unfortunately for the author, did not display the best writing our fandom has to offer.

So, I was reading through some recent posts and came across one linking to a rather scathing review of Fifty. I'm not going to lie - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

In the comments under the review, someone linked to a youtube video that I will post inside:

A Dramatic Reading of Fifty Shades of Gray by The Cookie Monster

...and it's that scene that shall not be named. I had a good laugh and I hope it brings a few tears to the eyes of some of my fellow campers.

Spoil Me!

Monday April 9, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Are you a fic reading wimp? Is there a fic you'd love to start but you're scared and need someone to hold you and tell you if it's safe to go ahead?

This is the campfire for you!

Here's how we'll do this. Make a post asking about the fic in question. If you have any specific issues, go ahead and ask. Then those of you who've read can answer the wimps. ;)

VERY IMPORTANT RULES

Rule #1 - This is for completed fics ONLY.  Please no public spoiling of wips, it can mess up the flow of a wip, so yeah.  This is for the completed stories only.

Rule #2 - POST SPOILERS IN WHITE FONT.  If your question about a fic contains anything spoilerish, white it out too.  Don't know how?  Type out your request/answer, highlight the text.  Then go up to the little button at the top of the text box that shows an "A" with a grid of colors.  Click on the button and select "White" at the bottom right.

If you do not white out your spoilers, I will harass you.  ;)  Yep.

Have you read the VERY IMPORTANT RULES?  Are you ready? Set? Go!

My first request will be in the comments.

Chris Weitz - Director AND Author

Monday April 9, 2012 at 4:51 PM

'Twilight' director Chris Weitz to publish young adult trilogy

Chris Weitz, director, writer, and producer of films like The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Golden Compass, and About a Boy, will publish a post-apocalyptic young adult trilogy through Little, Brown, due spring 2014. The publisher notes that his work on film adaptations of young adult titles makes him especially plugged into the genre. Here’s a plot description of Weitz’s The Young World:

  • The Young World is the gripping first installment of a trilogy set in the not-so-distant future in a post-apocalyptic New York City following the catastrophic destruction of the world as we know it. An unknown trauma has left every child and adult on earth dead, but, for unknown reasons, teenagers are spared. Anyone between the onset of puberty and the age of twenty-one are in a world with no authority figures. And while that world would normally be a teenager’s fantasy, this world has no heat, running water, television, video games, phones, or Internet. Teenagers are the heirs to a world brought back to the Stone Age, and now they must learn to master it in order to survive.

Despite the fact that I wasn't particularly crazy about New Moon (but hey, I didn't really care for the book or disappearing Edward), I got a good vibe from Chris.  The premise of his story sounds a bit ridiculous -- but also very intriguing.  YOUR THOUGHTS?
