Good morning everybody. Mmm, I hope I am not creating another storm here, but anyway … As you know I jump into debates and have no qualms stating what I think even if I am in a minority position. In the two years I have been around, I have offended people, apologized many times, curbed my way of speaking (too prone to hyperboles and paradoxes that do not transfer well inwriting) and found also many like minded people. I love the forest.
But surely there are campers who dislike me, complained about me and made sure I knew it.. However, some of them are authors too and I happen to like their fics. So I find myself reviewing (I am speaking of appreciative reviews) and even pimp their stories. (the contrary does not happen, though, but maybe they simply are not interested in what I write.)
Recently, however, I would have sent a PM to a camper asking for a PDF she happens to have, but I had not the courage to do it, because I have reason to believe she really dislikes me and, at best, my PM would have been ignored.
Still, I think I should have sent my request. Why so nervous? This stems from the Robsten scandal debate. I have noticed that many campers believe that if somebody in the literary or spectacle world does something wrong they will stop reading his/her books or see his/her films. I don’t think it is right, albeit I decided not to see SWATH, but it is not that I was very interested, only there is so little at the cinemas in this hot summer in Rome, so I would have gone, otherwise. But in general I would see a film or buy a book regardless the artist’s behavior or personality. It really does not make sense, as art (even minor art) should be judged on its merit alone.
And in the fandom and here in the forest it should be possible to interact positively even with people I disagree with, or disagree with me.
What do you think? I really want to know.
I add a rec that is also an apology. I refused to read this fic until Raum explained to me that it had supernatural elements, if not vamps. (she should have said that in the summary!). And it is great!
Firefly in summer, by Primarycolors
Summary: Edward finds himself back in the little beach town of his childhood when he inherits the local bar from his uncle. The elusive, pretty girl next door has killer legs, a sketchbook and secrets that are slowly eating her alive.
(The appropriate tag for this would be Life in the Forest, but it does not exist, sigh)
