Now that I have your attention I'm going to shamelessly promote Tom Hardy's new movie, Lawless, for reasons which I will enumerate below the trailer.
Lawless is a new movie that just premiered this week. It stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska.
Synopsis: Set in Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, a bootlegging gang is threatened by a new deputy and other authorities who want a cut of their profits.
What's so great about this movie?
1. Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, and Gary Oldman (old guy crush)
2. It's got violence, it's got love, and it's based on a true story.
3. This movie is based on a book Written my Matt Bondurant called The Wettest County in the World. The book is fabulous. It's a chronicle of an incident that happened to the author's grandfather and his brothers. It depicts a famus incident in Virginia bootlegging history and the meeting of Bondurant's grandfather and grandmother.
Why is this so important to me?
Last semester Matt Bondurant was my mentor in grad school. I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work with him for 6 months on my manuscript. In fact, if it wasn't for his guidance I wouldn't be writing the novel that I am right now. He has been instrumental in my rising confidence in my own writing and teaching me what I needed to know to get started. He is a wonderful friend, and was a fabulous mentor.
Matt has three books out right now. The Third Translation - an archaeological suspense set in England, The Wettest County in the World, and newly released in January - The Night Swimmer - a novel about a woman who swims distance runs in the open water of the atlantic off the coast of Ireland. All of the books are great reads. I highly reacommend them.
Satisfy your hormones, and support my mentor by going to watch this fabulous movie!
ETA: I forgot to make this interactive.
