Veterans Day / Remembrance Day

Honoring all those who served.

I love that everything comes to a stop at 11am here in the UK.  Offices, shops, schools, on the radio -- all observe two minutes of silence.  Even if you're standing at the checkout, even if I'm at home -- we stop and pay our respect.

Do you do anything to recognize the day?

Is anyone in your family in the military?  Was your Dad or your grandad?  Your mom?   

I know we have at least one camper who is in the armed forces.

As I did not get Ranger approval for this, I will rec a military fic.  I was just reading a good one last week.  Bella has specialist knowledge and E and team are superops types.  Will edit as soon as I remember.

Typhoon Haiyan "possibly the strongest storm ever to make landfall"

If you are in a position to contribute to the efforts aiding people & relief workers in the Phillipines, I thought it might be helpful to list some organisations that have made it easy, efficient and reliable to do so.

Since many of us prefer those groups which make it a point to depend upon volunteer help, maintain international networks and contacts, keep administrative costs to a bare minimum and try to direct almost every cent of donated funds to the event or cause specified, I've listed a few in the comments below.

Two guarantee 100% - the other, 97% - of all funds will be used solely towards direct crisis relief efforts; these figures were my criteria, regardless of religious or other affiliations. Please feel free to add names and contact information for organisations you may know of and trust as well.

What new films have YOU seen lately?

Come in and share some new flicks you've seen recently that you absolutely LOVE and/or vehemently HATE. Anything make you cry? Laugh? 

So, I am tired of resisting my passion for stories about "best friends who fall in love." I love them enough to create a campfire about them. My all-time favorite fanfic is by whatsmynomdeplume. Of course, it's the fabulous The Best I Ever Had.

I also just finished reading a wonderful book by Penny Reid called Friends Without Benefits. So good and very sweet.

I guess I'm a sap for these stories because the same thing happened to me with my husband. He was always there...my very best friend until at 16 he wasn't just my best friend anymore. He was someone I had fallen deeply in love with and after 20 years and 2 beautiful children, he still makes my heart drop when we kiss.  Yeah, I know...my friends say we are "sickeningly in love."  I can completely relate to the lyrics "I've loved you for a thousand years, I'll love you for a thousand more." Just when I think I can't possibly love him anymore than I do, somehow that love gets stronger.

So, the reason for my campfire...Does anyone else love these kinds of stories too? Any recommendations? What is your "favorite" kind of story? Do you have a "type?"

So, lately the news and world events and just people being awful has been getting me down and I thought I'd put a call out there for fun, light hearted, comedic fics (both fandom and published). Light on the angst and heavy on the feel good! One that I recently read that I really enjoyed was:

The Real Life of E A Masen by Vancouver-Canuck-Girl

And I also enjoyed The Best I Ever Had by Whatsmynomdeplume. I'm looking along the lines of those types of fics if anyone could help! Sorry I can't link to those two, but I can't figure it out in the iPad. 

on the published side, I found books by Vivi Andrews pretty funny (at least the Karmic Consultants series). I hope these recs are enough to inspire other people looking for the same type of stories! Thanks!

So I really haven't been on here much and I haven't really read any fic's lately. I lost my job in June (you would think I would read more now but I read all the time at work Shhhhh...)So I was wondering if any of you could help me find my way back to some good stories. Now that it's getting cold up here in PA I am going to get back in the swing of things and read the winter away. So I am asking all of you to HELP ME PLEASE!!! Have a great weekend!!!Thanks!

Does anybody remember what is the best way to arrange this?

We had the best time at our meetup last weekend.  First was lunch at Papa's and Beer, and we had our own dining room so we could talk and be loud!  Edward joined us, again!
