Diving Deep for Fan Fic Treasures

Each week I will brave the treacherous waters of Fan Fiction for buried treasure. Below are the gems I've found this week!

The Fic Dive is lacking this week because I'm feeling like garbage.
Going back to bed.  :)

Ray of Light by awish0921
As a single father of three daughters, Edward thinks everything is fine with his family. New to a small town, Bella is running from her own heartache. Can two strangers help each other face the things they have been too scared to face on their own? Daddyward / Olderward.

Daddyward.  'Nuff said.

House of the Hunters by EffulgentEllie
Edward and Bella run separate gun for hire groups, but are thrust together after the Swans move back to Chicago. The parents rekindle relationships and the new generation learn to share, but what will happen when their most threatening foe sees that together they pose an even bigger threat? Will Edward and Bella escape the Hunters in one piece? Rated M for violence.

Liking the start of this one.

FLASH BACK FIC DIVE:

And Yet So Far by LyricalKris
When he found out he was a father to baby daughter, Edward had to grow up too fast. With a baby involved, nothing is ever as simple as what he wants. But after he met Bella, it always seemed like happiness was so close, and yet so far. Written for FAGE4

Love that there wasn't an automatic HEA.  They had to really work for this one!

Love in My Box by cosmoandmarvar
Bella's an intellectual free spirit and Edward is a reserved, slightly geeky med student. They have a brief, but intense encounter on Sp Brk in Miami. Can they find true love through emails? There will be lemons and laughs. Look who's writing this!

One of the best Dorkwards ever written.

The Cullen Sutras by Magnolia822
After a difficult breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Bella meets a sexy, but enigmatic, yoga instructor whose dedication to the art masks a hidden sorrow. Further complicating matters is his loyalty to the yogic practice of brahmacharya, celibacy! AH

This one has a good plot twist I didn't really see coming.  Hidden sorrow doesn't even begin to describe E's issues.

Thanks All! Happy Back to School!

Outlander: 101 script,102 pic,103 discussion

Saturday August 23, 2014 at 1:19 AM

Not sure how many of you who are interested in OL are also on the lj site, so I thought I should post this here too. There's an episode coming up tonight for those of you lucky enough to be living in a country where you can alctually watch it tonight, legally and while eating pecan pie so you can also use this cf for commenting. Spoil away if you want, in white. If anything it'll help those of us that can't understand much of what they're saying.

So, I've found the script for the first episode if anyone's interested. If there's anyone who can find the script for the second episode please let me know. Reminds me of all those times the Twi movies scripts would 'leak' and all of us would be dismissing them as fake, because 'they can't be that stupid, can then?'. Huh.

Now, OL's not like that. I'm not a fan of the leading actress (yet?) and would it hurt them to have the romantic hero wash a bit lie if you must,  but the difference in professionalism compared to the Twilight movies is just huge, on and off screen. However, I still can't get into the books at all (too much historical detail, again, personal hygiene issues, and what is it with SPOILER (maybe) in white: Jamie not wanting to know EVERYTHING about the future?? I was looking forward to Claire describing technological and societal advancement. Maybe it was there but I missed it?? Anyone else bothered by that??)

And then this beautiful scene came, in Episode 2. I like his acting. And he looks verra appealing here (my gay friends insist they get a vibe but idk). And a man living in such a male dominated society saying a girl with a spirit is always a good thing? Bring it on

Judging from what he knows should be visible under the kilt, no inferiority complex issues there

More gifs are more than welcome js

ETA: OL may be running for SIX years!!

When bad dresses happen to...

Friday August 22, 2014 at 12:27 PM

It's FFA, right?

This campfire is brought to you in the hope that it brings some light relief... That's the aim anyway, so I hope nobody feels like their toes are being trodden on! :)

As I flicked through my local newspaper last week, I came across some photos of a recent debs ball (prom, for those of you who live Stateside :) ), and I was struck to wondering whether some people ever look in the mirror before they leave their house. Some of the dresses were definitely leaning toward the "Big Fat Gypsy Wedding" end of the scale...

Now, perhaps I'm not one to judge. My own dress was something akin to this, but long...

Some might say it's boring, but it could have been this...

Or even this...

So, your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is this - trawl the internet for the worst prom/debs dresses you can find, and give us all a giggle...

By the sounds of things, we could do with one around here! :)

Bondfire ~ Six Word Stories

Thursday August 21, 2014 at 6:35 AM

Good Morning, Campers!

My sister shared this book concept with me:

Six Word Memoirs.

I love the idea, even though I'm definitely not a minimalist, in words or life.

There are some great ones, and mediocre ones.  Supposedly the series stemmed from the legend that Hemingway penned this when challenged with the six word memoir:

"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

Today, let's share our own six word stories.  I say 'stories' because that makes more sense to me than 'memoir'.

Some other good ones (from the writer version above):

-from Vanity Fair's review:  "Will thrill minimalists and inspire maximalists."

- from Mhammad Fataherji: "Dreamed of endless love.  Awoke alone."

-from Shannon Barnes: "Suburban Christian child.  Hippie Agnostic adult."

-from Amy Sedaris: "Mushrooms. Clowns. Wands. Five. Wig. Thatched."

-from Michelle Pinchev: "She walked barefoot in wet cement."

Are you inspired yet?  Tell us your story, your week, your random or not so random grouping of six words for today.

BTW, my girls are literally (in the true sense of the word) drawing pictures of forest fires right now.  Random but sort of coincident.  I'm not sure why.

ALS Challenge- Rob P.

Wednesday August 20, 2014 at 12:07 PM

I thought this deserved its own Camp Fire so it doesn't get lost..

Rob, accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and it was hilarious...

Edited to add the transcript because it was so funny that he challenged Marilyn Manson-

"Thanks for your nomination, Efron. Thanks very much," Pattinson, wearing a backward cap and white T-shirt, began to say. "I couldn't find a bucket at such short notice, so I had to improvise."

That's when Rob closes his eyes and prepares for the freezing impact, but what happens next is not what you'd expect. Instead of having a huge pour of ice water, someone dumps a saucepan full of just ice cubes on top of his head, which is then followed by a long spray of water from a hose.

While attempting to dodge all of things being tossed his way, Pattinson manages to say that he nominates co-star Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska and Marilyn Manson. "I don't have an Instagram, so you're gonna have to deal with this," he concludes.
