paging rathboners

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 12:19 PM

I like roles that I can sink my teeth into,' actor says from horror film's London set. Jackson Rathbone is drenched in blood from head to toe, and being dragged down a flight of cellar stairs. Somewhere, a million Twilighter hearts are weeping for the hunky young star of their favorite blockbuster. But somewhere else, horror maestro Clive Barker is smiling a wicked grin.

When MTV News recently visited the London set of "Dread," based on a short story by the twisted mind behind "Hellraiser" and "Candyman," things weren't looking good for the 23-year-old actor who shot to stardom last month portraying earnest vampire Jasper Hale. But, as Jackson was eager to tell us, life has never been better.

"This has been a fun movie to work on," he smiled, pretending for a moment that he wasn't soaked in Karo syrup. "It's my first leading-man role. I was always a character actor when I was in theater as a kid, and I've done a lot of character roles in television shows and whatnot. But this is a character that has a lot of development, a lot of progression. ... I like roles that I can sink my teeth into."

Like so many of his "Twilight" friends, Rathbone can now satiate his hunger as only a young star coming off a hot Hollywood film can. But rather than cashing in with generic romantic comedies or action flicks, he has chosen to partake in Barker's psychological thriller that tells the tale of Stephen (Rathbone), Quaid (Shaun Evans) and Cheryl (Hanne Steene), three college kids making a documentary about the origins of fear — until one decides that the only way to get to the truth is by extracting dread from those around him.

" 'Dread' is a Kinsey-esque study of fear," the star explained of the plot, which is already being loosely compared to the "Saw" films' exploration of the lengths people will go to for survival. "We're setting up this fear study, and what we do is we interview people about their greatest fears and their dreads. The film starts out in this sweet college and then gets darker as people start having to live through their fears. A lot of times, it makes them stronger or it breaks them. That's what this film is about: It's about facing your fears and seeing what happens."

And the bottom line, according to Rathbone, is that he had never read a script quite like it before.

"It's not that typical romance, love-triangle thing — which is what I'd really like to stay away from," Jackson laughed while discussing the decades-old story by Barker, as well as the film version being overseen by director Anthony DiBlasi. "I've always loved the horror genre. As a kid, I wasn't allowed to really watch TV, let alone horror. I come from a fairly conservative background, and so I had to sneak away to watch movies like 'The Terminator' when I was 10 years old, and when I was about 13, 14, a good friend of mine gave me a George A. Romero box set with 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Day of the Dead.' I loved those movies, but I had to hide them under my bed as a kid.

"If my parents saw them, they would have grounded me for months," he remembered. "They didn't want certain images ingrained in my mind."

Now, Rathbone is hard at work bringing himself to death's door and hoping a portion of his sizable fanbase will similarly risk getting grounded to see the film when it comes to theaters next year. "I really have to give all props to my fans, because they've really been so supportive of me," he explained. " 'Twilight' has given me, and a lot of the other actors on 'Twilight,' a much wider fanbase, and they've been so supportive of us, and that's really what we need. As an actor, you need an audience to practice your craft. A painter can paint alone, a photographer can take pictures alone, a musician can play — but as an actor, you need someone to watch you, and we couldn't have a better audience. ... I've been able to do a lot more films because of them."

But whereas "Twilight" famously took the fangs off vampires and portrayed the Cullens as vegetarians whose bloodlust could be held in check by the occasional woodland-creature buffet, "Dread" seeks no such horror suppression. "Several of us go through a lot of prosthetics in this film," Rathbone explained. "It's really good. I mean, it looks real, and it's fairly horrific.

"And when you're off camera, it's fun to chase someone around covered in blood," he joked. "That's a lot of fun."

But don't think that all this blood and gore will make "Dread" a completely different film than "Twilight," as Rathbone said both films share similarly shadowy undertones. "There's something about playing darker, like a vampire, or somebody like Stephen who's just kind of wrapped up in death," he compared. "With Stephen, it's the death of his brother, and he's trying to get over that. With Jasper in 'Twilight,' it's about controlling the urges to feed and trying to establish that humanity. I think that's what I really love about playing a darker character, finding the humanity. Because we all have dark sides of ourselves, and if we let that control us, then we're never gonna be happy. It's about finding the balance."

Based on Rathbone's diverse marathon of filming a "Donnie Darko" sequel, "Dread" and "New Moon" back-to-back-to-back, as well as his continued participation in the band 100 Monkeys, finding a balance doesn't seem to be a problem for this fast-rising star.

Go Terriers!

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 12:11 PM

Some Peter Facinelli news for his fans:

I was online, sifting through my Facebook newsfeed today, when something mentioning Carlisle Cullen caught my eye:

(Sorry if it looks funny, but I didn't want to put these girls on blast.)

Peter Facinelli attended his alma mater today, St. Francis Preparatory High School (prep, for short) in Fresh Meadows, NY. Like an idiot I just realized that he used to go there. I went there for a year, but I moved to Florida.

So it's kind of neat. I used to walk the same East Middle/West Top halls as he did. Today is the first and last time I will ever be proud to have been a Terrier (yes, that is really the mascot).

Do you guys have any interesting connections to people in the Twilight saga? You could be the third cousin of the dude that holds the umbrella over Rob's head...I wanna know! Pictures of Peter are also acceptable ;)

cam and his bb

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 11:33 AM

Getting his holiday shopping done, Cam Gigandet was spotted out and about in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon (December 15).

Joined by girlfriend Dominique Geisendorff and their daughter Everleigh Rae, the “Twilight” stud looked hunky as he strolled past the paparazzi.

And like the doting daddy that he is, Cam carried his little girl tucked in a baby carrier as he enjoyed his retail romp with his main squeeze.

On the career front, Mr. Gigandet recently finished filming seven different films including “Five Star Day,” “Making Change,” “The Experiment,” “Easy A,” “Priest,” and “The Roommate.”

I don't think anything is cuter than this picture:

Vagina Mcginesteen

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 10:21 AM

It's my new favorite phrase. I've been saying it a lot the past few days.

Because my exboyfriend keeps calling me and he's a vagina mcginesteen. And because 93% of the Edwards out there in ff land are vagina mcginesteens.

Can you rec me stories where Edward isn't a vagina? Like, think the Red Line- and rec me the exact opposite.

What do you think goes into the making of masculine Edward? What would be the recipe for an ultra manly Edward?

For Example: Two parts Quentin Tarantino, one part fart, three parts Ron Burguny, and a sprinkling of Ernest Hemingway. Instead of stirring, kick it in its face and make it sleep out in the cold.

Also, why does Edward call it "kitty"? Seriously, everytime I hear that, I think of Star Wars and this:

That's Bella's vagina. Only instead of that weird tentacle thing coming out of the middle, it's a kitten's head. If anyone could Photo Shop that, I would love you forever.

All our girls

Exclusive

Twi-Hards kept tweeting at me and bombing my inbox yesterday – their tits were in a twist over a photo shoot involving Robert Pattinson and
Emilie de Ravin for Vogue. E!Online broke the story that the two were photographed at the LA County Museum of Art. Emilie has apparently offended the Twi-Hards because she was cast in a film with Pattinson. She’s a “fat ass bitch” because the two are friends. They feel this way of course because they’re just trying to look out for Kristen Stewart who is “ROB’s ONE TRUE LOVE FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Please.

Kristen can take care of herself. Kristen was It before
Robert Pattinson and she will be It after Robert Pattinson. Because in this equation, Robert Pattinson is the longshot. So while he fannies about with his hearthrobby image, Kristen Stewart is up to more prestigious endeavours.

How about the Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue?

Yes. The Hollywood Issue.

I’ll attach a few of my past favourites just to give you an idea of what the Hollywood Issue means.

I’m told exclusively that it took place a few days ago.
Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood, Amanda Seyfried, Emma Stone, Mia Wasikowska, and more. A girl crush lady boner. So many of my girls. And SO happy Emma Stone was invited. Hopefully Amanda Seyfried has a new publicist?

It’s a strong young crop of female talent. And on the heels of the Portmans, Knightleys, Hathaways, Johanssons, who themselves are following the Winslets, the Blanchetts, the Cruzes, the Paltrows, the Watts, the Thurmans, and the Moores, this is yet another reason why Lindsay Lohan can’t work.

Poem.

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 9:44 AM

What's your favorite poem or who is your favorite poet?

I'm always looking for a new good one.

A small snippet from one of my favorite Poe poems:

But our love was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many far wiser than we
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

If you wanna keep it Twilight related, any poems in particular you feel relate to the Twilight Saga?

rpattz lashes out at a fan

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 9:40 AM

ROBERT Pattinson went crazy when a female jumped out of a stopped car and kissed him.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon hunk apparently lashed out when the teen — who planted a smooch on Rob’s lips — declared, “My mom wouldn’t pull the car over to let me out because I’m just getting over the swine flu… so I jumped out at the red light just to see you.”

According to the National Enquirer, Pattinson then shoved the girl away and ran off, while yelling over his shoulder, “You have the SWINE FLU?!… What the hell are you doing kissing anyone?”

Pattinson then found the nearest drugstore and bought himself a bottle of Listerine, which he thought would rid him of the H1N1 germs.

Rob then told his bodyguards, “You guys have got to keep these crazies away from me!”

The hunky British actor has previously revealed how his fans try to bit him.

“People ask me to bite them and want to touch my hair,” R-Patz said in November. “I just don’t want someone to have a needle and give me HIV and I don’t want to get shot or stabbed.

“This is my life. People know my name and ambush me in public and try to figure out what hotel I’m staying at. I have accepted it as real now, but it still feels surreal.”

I don't know if it's true or not, but it did make me giggle.

Favorite Holiday Movies

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 8:03 AM

There is a campfire below asking what upcoming releases you are planning to see. So now, I'm curious. What movies do you watch this time of year? Are they Christmas related or is it just a family tradition to watch a movie that has nothing to do with the holidays? Are they movies that others love to watch that you cannot stand?

My favorites are:

The Muppet Christmas Carol

Home Alone

The Family Man

And to get in touch with my Jewish roots (okay, I don't actually have any Jewish roots but sometimes I like to pretend I do):

Eight Crazy Nights

So tell me what your favorites are!!!

Rangers feel free to remove if this isn't kosher (kosher...haha)

In Defense of Bella?!

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 8:00 AM

Hey everyone, I can't believe I'm writing  this in defense of Bella but in some recent campfires theres been a lot of "Bella bashing"  and not being an English lit major or even a college grad, I'm confused!  How can Bella be a stone cold bitch and a doormat at the same time?  What's her ulterior motive?  To be a Mormon poster girl or selfish brat?Is it possible or unreasonable to accuse her for being both?  I guess it depends on what fic you are reading but there sure is alot of crankiness out there for a fictional character...Even Jane Austen's heroines weren't always perky.  Was Scarlet O'Hara  all sweetness and light? If Bella was your average YA type character would anybody be ranting about her here on ADF?  Would there still be the movies, fandom, ADF and all the other millions of sites? All I'm saying is I think it's pretty interesting that  Bella gets keel-hauled for being a wuss or a witch with equal amounts of (sorry!) "venom" from both sides.  Well, it's pretty obvious I've been up all night!  Off to bed!

Cabins Ahoy!

Wednesday December 16, 2009 at 12:47 AM

The Construction Crew Has Cleared Out!

Alright people, we welcomed some new VIP Authors to the Forest recently, but the cabin construction was behind schedule due to wintery weather conditions there in VIP VILLAGE. All those VIP Artists moving in turned the unpaved roads into mud trails and the trucks that haul the cabin materials had a tough time getting through.

See what I did there? I blamed the artists. Now they'll all post their outrage to defend themselves, but it's a slick move on my part, bringing those wallflowers out of their shells.

ANYWAY, it's time for you to welcome the newcomers. Take a little housewarming gift to one of these fine folk:

Rob's New Photoshoot

From E!News

Link to article below

We know where Robert Pattinson was today.

Across the street from our offices—at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art!

But he wasn't exactly checking out any exhibits…

Sources tell us that hottie R.Pattz and his stunning Remember Me costar Emilie de Ravin were there being photographed at the museum (aka LACMA) for Vogue magazine.

I'm told editors at the fashion bible are planning a multipage spread of the twosome for the mag's annual Power Issue that rolls off the presses just in time for Remember Me's March 12 release date.

Say what?!?

Tuesday December 15, 2009 at 10:42 PM

So, I read a lot.  I read FF a lot.  Like, A LOT.  I read books too, but I usually have to go back to FF in between chapters just to get my fix.  I'm lame, I admit it.

But since I read so much I've noticed that there are some OVERLY USED WORDS AND PHRASES in FF

I blame SMeyer.  She started this bsns with her 85,765 "chagrined's" and her 1,287,563,986 "glowered's".  I was reading some book the other week and they used the word "glowered" and it made me laugh.  I wonder if SM read that book too.  She probably read it, loved the word and made a little sticky note to herself...so when she sat down to write Twilight, she would remember to use that word.

Tonight I was reading the updates from two of my FAV fics....they are written by awesome ladies who never cease to amaze me with their brilliance.  And it was early Christmas too because I got to read my favorite phrases.  This srsly makes me smile (there is NO sarcasm in this statement!!).  It's like knowing we all read the same shit, we're beginning to all sound alike.  You know... like when a group of women all live together and their periods begin at the same time.... this is kinda like that but only in..... oh nevermind...

ANYHOO.....

Here are two of my favorite overly used words and phrases in Twi-fic:

FIND/FOUND PURCHASE

- as in "her hands found purchase on his chest"

About a year ago I read that and I was like wow this writer is so literary and has a great vocabulary....then the 2nd time I read it, I was like wow, another smart writer....by the third time I was like okay, these bitches are using each others words.  Where the hell did that come from anyway?!?

IT'S NOT MY STORY/SECRET TO TELL

This one I'm pretty certain has it's origin in Canon.  And it's usually used in reference to a meddling Alice trying desperately to tell Bella how awesome Edward is despite his usual fuckery, but he obv has an excuse due to some horrific event in his past.  I love when I read this phrase because I know in another chapter or two, the SECRET WILL BE REVEALED!

What overly used words or

phrases have you noticed?

Tuesday December 15, 2009 at 7:53 PM

Well Hello ladies,

How are you this fine evening in the forest? I am great as I am here today to steer you in the direction of fuckawesome fic. :D

I'm assuming some of you are aware of how awesome WriteOnTime is. I have see The Port Angeles Players recced on these here message board. But did you all know she has started a new fic called Breaking News?

Yes? No? If not you needed to head over there yesterday cause that's when she updated with chapter number six.

NewsWard is seriously making me hot, he's snarky and incourragable and of course handsome as always. I love him and I call dibs, but I'm willing to talk about working out a schedule to share.

NewsElla is also owning me and you'll find none of that wilting flower nonsense over there. The girl actually deals with her normal insecurties in an grown up adult way, and she kicks ass and doesn't take shit in a profession which is pretty male centric. You'll love her and want to go do tequila shots with her on a Saturday night, I promise.

As added incentive there is insane asylum Alice who is shaping up to be quite a plot twist. We will be learning more about her soon I am sure but I just love that WriteOnTime went there with one of the more beloved characters in the fandoms.

If you've been following this fic I want to know what you think of it.

As for the rest of you go read now! I know some of you like to wait until a certain number of chapters are out, but I say why wait for tomorrow for good fic you could be reading today!

Here, have a link!
