We all started somewhere...

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 8:41 PM

So I’m drunk and I’m bored and I was thinking of how far some of our Twilight actors have come.

Rob attempted modeling

KStew was the panicked asthmatic daughter of Jodie Foster

Nikki used to be a young druggie roaming the streets of L.A.

Billie used to be an alien on Star Trek

Jackson used to…well...

Taylor used to be shark boy

Kellan Lutz used to wear light pink lipstick

A Different Forest used to be green

You get my drift. :) So, please share your first job or one of your craziest.

Way back in the day, I worked at Epcot making funnel cakes. It sucked very much. I went home every night smelling of grease, funnel cake batter, and sweaty tourists blech and I gained at least 10 pounds. But it had perks I could get into the Disney parks for free and watching the seagulls snatch the funnel cakes from tourists was pretty entertaining. Those birds are deadly when it comes to food.

Please share :)

DVR/TiVo Junkies

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 7:52 PM

With New Moon coming out next week (OMG!), there are going to be a lot of cast appearances on talk shows and such.  Does anyone have a compiled list of appearances?  I have found an occasional mention of an appearance here or there, but I wondered if there was a compiled list out there.  I want to set my DVR accordingly....

To Review Here or Elsewhere?

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 6:00 PM

Campers - have you been reading your favorite fics here, as opposed to Twilighted or FF.net?  I know I'm excited to read "Sanctuary" here, rather than the white on black screen of Twilighted.  However, the number of reviews does sometimes impact the momentum of a story in this fandom.  I feel a little hesitant to leave my review here, rather than FF.net if that's where the story's been accumulating reviews for some time.  On the other hand, I really like the ADF and want to support its endeavors to facilitate conversation between readers and authors.

VIP Authors - I'm guessing you'll say that you love reviews, regardless of where they're located, but what if I'm promising to write a review -- where would you like it sent?  Here, where things feel a bit more intimate, or FF.net/Twilighted, where your review count has been accruing for some time?

UM...

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 3:58 PM

I had no idea what the Twilight Lexicon was...does this make me a bad Twilighter? : (

Seriously, I just went over there because I was reading a psychological look at Twilight and the author kept referencing "TL Personal Correspondence #10."  I thought, "Que, Que?" and clicked over...so I've just spent the last hour reading all of SM's personal correspondence from 3 years ago with, I guess, an admin for that site.  I finally get some of the choices made in FF that I've read!

It was a light bulb moment.

So...onto the campfire question: Is there anything that makes you a bad Twilighter?  Maybe you don't own the books? *gasp* Or maybe you've only seen the movie once?? *double gasp*

Lol, I'm still reeling a bit.

Fandom Age

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 3:02 PM

I was unable to respond on the "age ain't nothing but a number" thread (which it looks like was deleted) because of the script used in the poll. I kept getting error messages when I tried to post comments. I was able to take the poll itself, but not reply.

So I thought I'd make a thread to discuss it incase anyone else couldn't comment, too.

Here's my input:

There was no option for 15, so I just put "Under 15." I feel like in this fandom, though, age is irrelevant. I've made so many friends in this fandom, ranging in age from 15 to 50! They all treat me the same.

The only thing that annoys me is when people in the fandom tell me I'm too young to be taken seriously. Twilight is a YA novel, and it's not like I go around trolling and flaming.

What do you guys think? Do you care about your fellow twilighters ages?

What makes you take a chance on a fanfic?

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 9:27 AM

What draws you in to start reading a fanfic?  Is it only a recommendation from a trusted source, like this Web site or other readers/writers you like?

How much does the description matter to you?  Does a great banner or artwork really help?  Are you more inclined to read it if it has a lot of reviews?  Or an NC-17 rating?

I'm curious because I think every writer has to "market" their own story in some way.  In the fanfic world, though, word-of-mouth seems to work best.   If a synopsis has a lot of stupid "will their or won't they" questions, or a ton of typos, I'll mostly likely skip it.  One banner that totally put me off has kept me from reading what's probably a good story.  I don't care so much about the rating.  How about you?

DELETED USER

A suggestion...

Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 8:45 AM

I have heard this guy give several lectures on Twilight and he is fantastic. John Granger started out in the world of Harry Potter but has turned his attention to Twilight. He caters to what he calls "serious readers" and I think many here would enjoy his analysis. He gets into the meaty issues of Twilight and explores the levels of interpretation and symbolism that goes way beyond the standard "forbidden fruit". He is a fan and appreciates SM's work but is honest in his criticism and is open to discussion.

If you're interested, I suggest starting at http://fhsprofessor.com/?p=7 .
