Each week I will brave the treacherous waters of Fan Fiction for buried treasure!
Sorry for the delay. Real Life.
So, two newbies this week. I was hesitant to read both, but ended up really liking them.
derivation by cupcakeriot
(noun) derivation. the obtaining of something from a source or origin. "All it takes is a touch," Bella says - and that is how she reveals that there is more to her than meets the eye. Little did she realize that she also had a derivation, one that she could scarcely predict. A Twilight Re-Telling.
In general, I stay far away from "Re-Tellings", but something about this writer's unique previous stories made me take a look. I like it. Some flashes of Twilight canon, with a definite different spin.
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables by LyricalKris
The wake of a tragedy—a school shooting—has far reaching consequences. Edward was living his life as though he had to make up for the four people who died in front of his eyes. Bella's life had been blown apart before it really started. Two strangers who happened to come back to the scene of the crime on the same day.
Be warned, there is some difficult material discussed. Having lost a family member to random gun violence, I'm always hesitant to read a story that has this as a plot. Kris handles it with respect and I like the storyline of the families that have to deal with losing a loved one so tragically.

Will Bella's return make her remember that Edward was always the one for her?
Sincerely, Sergeant Masen by 2carm2carm2
One bored night, Bella goes online and stumbles across an American's soldier's profile. On a whim she decides to write Sergeant Masen a letter. She never thought she would get a response back from Iraq, much less fall in love with a man in combat boots.
Soiled by bornonhalloween
Cleanliness is next to godliness, but not even the boss's daughter can stay unsoiled forever. The hot mechanic is gritty and gruff and avoiding her like the plague, so naturally he's all she wants. But would she be better off keeping her distance? Angsty ExB told in BPOV.
Something True by BelieveItOrNot
With too many secrets and a haunting past she'd love to forget, at seventeen, Bella is sure love doesn't exist. College dropout Edward Cullen can't seem to keep hold of love, or his music. A cottage, a lake, a tree, a muse, wrong choices, and heartache. How will these two cope with life and keep afloat? A daily word-prompt WitFit. Alternates between past and present. AH E/B
